    I just got a new quote from a dealer:

    HONDA CRV EX-L AWD w/Navi (w/O any add-ons): $30,500 OTD

    Good deal if your tax rate is 15%, Bad deal if your tax rate is 1%
    Good deal if your DMV fee is about $1000 on top of the 15% tax rate... Bad deal if your dmv fee is $100 and tax rate is 1%...

    $26,000.00 Sale Price (including the $830 Destination Charge)
    +$1,5000 6.25% Sales Tax
    +$239.00 Documentation Fee
    +$125.00 Registration Fee
    $29000 Total "Out-The-Door" Price (No Hidden Charges)

    Some thing like this is what would help....Please dont add the above numbers ... i just put them out there

    When I negotiate with dealers, I ask them the vehicle price including Destination fee, Documentation fee and all other XYZ fee that goes towards the vehicle price... ( Dealer can add prep fee, cleaning fee and anything they wish ...)

    Then using that total would be comparing apples to apples as on top of this $x amount for the car, You pay sales tax, DMV fee ( which could be title, reg, plates fees ) which vary based on where you register ...but will be the same no matter where u buy the car..
    Slickdeel,

    Exactly. Look at the price of the vehicle including everything except sales tax and DMV fees (which are going to be the same no matter where you buy). Otherwise, you're not comparing apples to apples and it all gets confusing. Doc prep fees are pure 100% b.s. -- nothing other than an addition to the sales price. When dealers try to justify it to me, I tell them "When you buy a shirt in the store for $50, does the clerk charge you an extra $4 to prepare the receipt and put through the credit card charge?" Naturally, they think I'm a p.i.t.a.

    So everyone on this thread -- please state the price including EVERYTHING except sales tax and DMV fees. Ignore trade-in allowances when you quote the price, but feel free to mention it separately. That will make it easier for everyone following this thread to compare apples to apples. Thanks.

    I'm currently shopping, and got this quote for an EX AWD from a local dealer:

    $25,914
    $ 4,500 (trade)
    --------------------
    $21,414
    $ 4,500 (payoff)
    --------------------
    $25,914
    $ 1,460
    $ 368
    $ 31
    --------------------
    $27,775 out the door

    Besides the math not being right, any thoughts?

    Edit:

    And another dealer not too far away offered $27,000 OTD.

    I just purchased a 2012 CR V EX 4WD for 27,595.00 out the door price yesterday. But, I've been having second thoughts and wished I had purchased the EX-L now. I really wanted to use the roof top for carrying my cargo but learned today that it will cost $895.00 to have one put on the EX at the dealership. Sounds like a you got a great deal for yur EX-L...what state? Is it a 4 or 2 wd, and what dealership did you use? THX
