I wish I left one of the stock lights in for comparison. But there's definintely an "improvement". But like SeaR-V said, it's the reflector design. You can only do so much with it.

For example, prior to the switch, there was no sharp top edge to the light pattern when you pulled up behind another car at night. Now there is. My take on this is that more light is being emitted forward.

Also, the lighting is white, not yellow. I'm sure I can see further down the road at night. I just have no way to measure.

I'm sure I'll be replacing bulbs more frequently because I want more output. But so be it. Need to see at night!

I am very disappointed with Honda related to the headlights. I don't think we should have to pay out the whazoo either to upgrade to euro's! The tech is there Honda...use it!

    Amazon,

Have you tried other high intensity bulbs besides the Ultra's?

I've heard that many of those expensive after-market high intensity bulbs are not all they're cracked up to be.

Also, did you replace both low and high beam bulbs, or just the low beams?

I've only tried the Ultra's. There are other brighter ones, but from what I've read too is that the trade-off is a much shorter life span. Since I use the auto-on, I'm planning on a year or so out of these. If more, great! $25 a year on bulbs won't break the bank.

Unless I'm totally mechanically challenged, there's only one bulb per side (dual beam).

I replaced the 65(high beam) 55(low beam) bulbs with 130(high beam) 80(low beam) watt bulbs. A simple remove the old ones and put in the new ones. They are specified for off road but work well. I haven't had anyone flash me yet in low beam.

    Two questions:

    1) I thought the current gen CRV uses one bulb for low and high beam. No?

    2) Can you buy them at any auto parts store? Besides the wattage, what bulb spec do you ask for? Cost?

    (Yeah, I know that's 4 questions)

I had the local store order them in for me. They are H4 bulbs so you just remove the originals and "pop" these in. They cost about $20.00 each.
They sure make a difference with the deer on the road.
The wife likes to use the "fog" light on low beam to fill in the sides of the road (ditches).

I will soon replace my headlights with a retrofitted projector setup though for better visibility.
