I'm not saying I wouldn't have bought the CR-V if I knew there was no HD radio, but when I did buy mine I was debating between an Accord and the CR-V. I had an Accord previously and liked it a lot. When I was comparing the two options, I was assuming that they had essentially the same set of features because they listed the same set of features. Had I known the CR-V didn't have HD radio it definitely would have played some part in my decision since I used to use it a lot (AM radio without HD is just awful). I didn't bother to check the list of included features because I never had reason to believe things listed there were NOT actually included. I didn't realize the CR-V didn't have a CD player which was mildly disappointing, but at least that was listed on the feature list, haha.

I still might have ended up with a CR-V but I did buy it assuming it had all the listed features. Would be nice to actually get them. I now know for next time to confirm everything that's listed...which won't be fun when it's time for a new car in a few years.

From the sounds of it, it's not that it's a small set of people discovering the error... every 2017 EX-L seems to not have it when it's listed as a feature. If it sounds like a small number of people to anyone, that's just because the car just came out. Most dealerships don't even have many at all yet on their lots. Now's the time to fix the problem before it becomes a much bigger problem.

Whether people know what HD radio is or isn't is not relevant.
Corporations are responsible for their "mistakes". If people decide not hold businesses accountable, then they can live with their choices. The CR_V I purchased was the EX-L with NAV which has HD radio so I don't have any standing to initiate a lawsuit which I would do if I had been bilked by Honda's "mistake".

Right, the feature itself is irrelevant. If it was advertised to have Air Conditioning and I find out in May when I go to use A/C for the first time that it doesn't actually have it... I'll be upset.

I'm glad I have the Touring model. HD Radio was an expectation for this car. I would not be happy if I bought a car expecting an advertised feature only to find out they left it off at the factory and want to throw $500 bucks to me to make me go away. To many, certain features are why they buy a car over a competitor.

I personally find this much more problematic to me than the VW TDI business (I owned a TDI).

I agree that this is not a good situation, though it appears as though I'll also be immune as I'm waiting on my EX-L Navi.

That being said, I can't fathom the idea of this being more problematic than the TDI situation. I too was a TDI owner - until this past Monday. Having owned a Passat TDI SEL, the radio/nav infotainment unit was probably the worst I have ever encountered. And, it was deceptive, in that the car had been started prior to my test drive, so the first time I was aware of the incredibly horrible delays in just having the rear backup camera operate were after taking delivery. Or the frequency of how often the head unit locked up. Or, waiting for well over a year hoping that there would be a resolution that addressed how our vehicles instantly lost another 25% of resale value. The situation ended on a good note, but the HD radio issue isn't even in the same country, much less the same zip code.

Oh, my nav system in the TDI was terrible (I had a Golf)....

All I was getting at was there are attributes about a car that matter more to some than others. To me, I care much more about HD Radio / XM radio than I do about bogus emissions laws (my opinion).

I agree that each person has their own priorities. That being said, the radio/nav/infotainment in the VW was frankly terrible - and was far more of a deception in terms of what they advertised compared to what was delivered than the current HD radio issue with Honda. Furthermore, while I agree any "issue" deserves discussion and needs resolved, what VW did was FAR FAR FAR more than "bogus emission laws". To state that it was "Bogus emission laws" is frankly wrong.

I can't speculate as to whether the laws concerning emissions are reasonable or not. However, what they were are laws, known by every manufacturer, well in advance. The issue with VW is not about whether the law is correct. It's about VW deliberately, immorally, unethically, and illegally directly engineering and implementing an illegal "cheat", which when discovered, reduced the value of vehicles purchased by owners by more than 25% in one day. With Honda, if the non-Navi units below touring trims are even never "fixed", owners still have options to get that functionality for very small investments. And, the value of the CR-V would never be impacted by such an issue. On the other hand, most people purchased TDI's for two reasons. Their "torquey" performance, and their fuel economy. By all standards, there is zero option of a "fix" for that which would not reduce both power AND economy which could NOT be legally corrected - period. And, without the class action settlement, there would be no "fix" which would reverse the heavy reduction in the value of the vehicle.

Bottom line - the current (and potentially easily resolved) issue with the HD Radio in non-Navi CR-Vs simply isn't even remotely similar. Only the settlement made this issue go away, and without it, owners of those vehicles would have been harmed exponentially more than any possible harm due to missing HD radio.

Dim Sum, I should also mention - we've probably got more in common here. I'm no fan of much of what the EPA has done recently. And BTW, I also own a Cummins Ram 2500 - used to tow my race trailer. But when I purchased my Passat TDI, I expected to get the performance and economy that I experienced based on reviews, stated performance, and my test drives. Their "cheat" invalidated ALL of those as (even as reported by folks like Motor Trend and Car and Driver magazines) it's very possible that people who own the TDIs in the future will be required to complete the "fix" (when delivered) in order to re-register their cars to operate on public roads. So, what they did gave owners no options - other obviously than the settlement.

I have yet to purchase the EX-L w/o NAVI -- any recommendations on how I should proceed having knowledge of this missing feature? Should I disclose it during negotiation or should I complain about it after the fact in hopes of receiving compensation (i.e. $500 credit)?
