Hi, any body choosed to get through rear back up sensors? Am looking to to get those with for our new 2017 crv and just wondering if they will integrate with infotainment screen to show the distance and direction between the car and the obstacle?

Thanks,

I've searched as well but can't seem to find the video you specified. It would be great if they did integrate with the rear camera video feed.

With the backup camera, I'm really not sure what purpose the backup sensors serve. The camera lets you see the rear bumper, so you can get right up on the car behind you, without hitting it. They really don't seem to be worth the money. Having parking sensors on the front of the car would probably be far more useful, as it's difficult to gauge how far you are from a car or wall in front of you when parking.

Sometimes when you're backing up while slightly turning in tight spaces, you alternate looking at front corners of the vehicle and rearview camera monitor. If you take your eyes of the monitor the moment an object/person is behind you the backup sensors will give you a warning where you can react immediately.

This may not be useful for everybody, but for people in highly urban or very busy areas it is helpful.

I'm new to the forums and been lurking for a couple of weeks. I'm interested in getting a Touring model with backup sensors. I would say that the sensors are nice to have, but probably not necessary if you're always alert and watching for people and objects. I'm currently driving a car with a rearview camera and back up sensors, and I don't think I could live without them both. It really helps when you're not fully paying attention to your surroundings and there are stationary or moving objects nearby. Having an audible warning adds one more layer of safety when backing up.

With the parking sensor kit, do you also get a button on the dashboard to silence the parking sensor beeps if you don't need the parking sensors in certain situations?

Side question: How do you delete your duplicate posts within a thread?

Okay, understood :). Very strange for Honda to not have a button on the dash to silence/disable them. I've seen that button on the Odyssey, but I guess that's only because the parking sensors come standard on the Touring and Touring Elite trim levels.

A backup sensor works much better than a backup camera except for getting within an inch of the car/obstacle behind you. I drove a suburban with the backup sensor for years and I miss that feature. You can back up in a much more normal way without having to shift focus on and off the display. It would beep fast for cross traffic, beep slow as you approached an obstacle, and had 3 red lights in the trunk by the rear glass that would light up as you got closer (you're already looking back there so no need to avert your eyes to a front lcd screen.

Point is, you don't really need that much help backing up. You just need to know if you're about to hit something or if someone walks or drives behind you while backing up. Backup sensor does that without distraction. It's far superior to the camera except when trying to get an inch away from something where you can see the distance to a fraction of an inch.
Just my opinion.

I recently rented an SUV that had both the back up camera and parking sensors. I found the camera much more useful and the parking sensors annoying as often times they would end up a solid beep, even though there were inches of room left for clearance. I ended up turning off the parking sensors... I guess they are still handy for the front of the vehicle. I think the 360 display would be better than the parking sensors...

:(I have them in my 2017 CR-V, and, while they detect things okay, the warning buzzer is in the rear of the vehicle, and it's volume (not adjustable, not integrated into audio system) is so low that it can't be heard over normal conversation in the front seat. Almost useless. Lousy implementation of a good idea.

Agree, we got them installed and I would say they are ok but not if they were pre installed and integrated similar to the other safety features

I felt the same way. The camera and cross traffic alert are great. However, I now have thousands of dollars of damage after my wife backed very slowly in pouring rain around a parked van and into a tree. For a stationary object there is no alert and the camera can become useless in bad weather. I'll be installing the sensor during the many repairs.

POOR BACKUP SENSOR VOLUME......My Honda dealer just installed on my 2018 CR-V Touring the optional backup sensors ($528). The backup sensors have no volume control. I can hear the warnings tones from the other auto sensors, like other warning tones like the cross traffic, but backup volume is so low I can not the backup beep So, I spent several hundred dollars on an option that is totally useless to me as it does not perform like the other warning features in the Honda. P,lus there are no warning lights in the inside back rear to indicate how close you are . . Yellow, Red etc.

That because the alarm speaker for backup sensors is installed with the controller on the rear left panel. It doesn't use the stereo system speakers like all other alert chimes. If you look at the instructions for installing the backup sensors, it calls for drilling a hole in the plastic panel so the speaker isn't covered. See if there is such a hole. It'll be in the cargo area, on the left panel.

I was just looking at the back-up sensors the other day. Once I saw the cost of the kit and what a nightmare installation would be, I decided to live without it. The buzzer installation is on steps 37 and 38, don't remember instructions for drilling a hole for that one, but it makes sense. I do remember the very last step was about adjusting the volume, maybe that's the part they need to revisit.

Here's a link to the installation instructions:

Perhaps I was mistaken, I don't see it in there now either. Maybe I was making an internal note-to-self to make that improvement. Try the volume, and if that doesn't help, I'd still recommend drill a hole for the buzzer and put in a tiny mesh grill. Alternatively, make an extension for the buzzer and bring it to the front near the driver, it should be only 2 wires.

I, too, looked at the instructions and decided against it for the same reason and also because the $400 oem kit wasn't any better integrated than a third party system for under $50. If I, or more likely my wife, feels the need to have this feature, I'd install a third party system.
