2017-2018 Model MODS

Hello guys, my first post here.

Just got a 2017 CRV and I'm happy with it. Just traded a 2016 Mazda CX5 with the 2.5 liter engine AWD. My other ride is a 2017 Hyundai Tucson Limited with the Ultimate package.

I love cars and I always do a bunch of mods to them. I would like to know what mods have you done and if you can post steps or pictures so me or others can learn.

I already added a rear view mirror with a compass and a garage door opener. There's is a plate around the camera for the emergency brake in the same place.
I added the mirror last nigh and taped into the accessories fuse to get the power.

I already tinted the front and windshield (top only) and debaged the CRV as well.

Will wait to get a third party hitch since the OEM is way too expensive. I seen the instructions and I can do it but I don't need the electrical and I refuse to pay the amount for the OEM. I'll just wait for another manufacturer like Curt to fabricate it without the electrical part (bikes only)

I'll post some pictures of the rear view mirror later.

So what other mods have you done?

Update:10/24/2018

Just got a 2018 CRV-EX. I did the previous mods, and I added a Bose inside the spare tire and the Rhino roof racks as well.
Just will add the splash guards and maybe the sensors on the rear next.

Hi silverboy. Sounds fun tweaking your CR-V how you like it. It would be great to see some pics of your work! You could also post them in the other thread around here for posting photos of your 2017.

I haven't done much to mine, but I would like to put in a subwoofer. I also want the third party hitch for a cargo carrier.

That's pretty awesome you've done all that already. Definitely some pics to see what you've been able to do to your CR-V.

I don't think it counts but the only thing I've done is add a dash cam and run the usb cable around the dash to the charger in the front center console. Can you show a pic of how you tapped into the accessories fuse to get power for your mirror? I've heard of people doing something like that to get power for their dash cams.

i was worried my dash cam wire would be too obvious, but i ran it all along the passenger side and i'm pretty pleased with how concealed it is. I got mine a little to the right of my rear view mirror camera contraption in the middle of the windwshield.

The remote starter is already there so my next project will be to add the rear sensors, I done tons of installs in the past so it'll be easy. I did it to a 2007 CRV when it just came out, and back then there were no instructions.

I'll post some pictures of the rear view mirror later.

hello silverboy,

how did you go about debadging your cr-v emblem?

hello silverboy,
how did you go about debadging your cr-v emblem?
Dental floss and a nice clean cloth towel to remove the glue.
I found that removing the glue is easier when the temps are low in comparison to when is hot (glue gets sticker)

You will be able to edit your posts once you have a few more posts under your belt.
Thanks

Some pictures, quality not the best but it shows the mirror and the area without the cover (braking system camera).

I'll try to upload some pictures of the added fuse too. I used bank #1 (accessories with a 10 amp)

Hi Silverboy,
for the mirror did you have all the wire connections available for auto dimming, compass and Homelink to work.
Did you need any special wiring or harness to make it work?
I have EX and like the idea of auto dimming rear view mirror. TIA

Quick question, can Imodify a thread in a later time?
Like adding pictures to a post instead of creating a new one?

I was trying to add the pictures to the first post but I couldn't.

Thanks

I don't have access for this particular model but almost all of them (compass + garage door opener) will work.
You can look at ebay, but put close attention to the connector part (metal with screw). Look at you current mirror and then search in ebay using the pictures.

Usually connects three wires, two + (get power from accessories power) and a ground.

BTW, I have four extra mirrors if anyone is interested. Just shoot me a PM.

I will also add a Bose subwoofer to the CRV, the one that fits in the spare tire. When I'm done I'll post some pictures.

I would love the mirror with homelink. Gentex 313 seems to be at a good price on ebay. Anyone else done this. Silverboy, do you still have some extra ones?

I DO.
Sorry guys I haven't been here lately. Got into an accident and the CRV is gone. All good no injuries but the CRV had a lot of damage to the front.
After it was fixed I didn't feel comfortable driving it so I traded.

I also have the all weather mats (black color) cargo mat and cargo cover for sale as well. I only had the CRV for about six weeks so they are in almost new condition.

Send me a PM if you need more info on the rear mirror or the other items I got.

Thanks

Silver, how did you route the wire for the mirror? My dash cam is kinda haphazard and goes over the top of the A-pillar on the passenger side and into the foam padding the door closes into.

Same as you.

Everything works.
I used the ad a fuse and I connected to it. The mirror comes with the harness, some times there's three wires out, two positive and one negative or one and one.

Hi OP, how to open the radar plastic cover where the mirror is installed?
Just pry it out?TIA
This one is really tricky since there's no instruction anywhere on how to remove the cover.
Pull the middle piece out
The entire cover have the shape of a U and one piece in the middle.
Pull the top outer parts out (picture a U, then pull the two tops out. Don't pull them towards you but out. Then the middle piece will come out.
Then the just giggle the U part out.

I hope I made sense guys.
Next time I'll try to post some pictures of the install.

Well that was fun. So apparently there was a welcome message in my inbox. And because I'm only allowed ONE message... It registered as full. Even better was that I got locked out of the forum entirely for some unknown reason and it no longer recognized my email address or user name. Good times. According to the admins it's all fixed now. So give it another spin and message me if you still have them.

Silver, when you hooked up your fuse tap, what did you connect your ground wire to? I cant find anything around the driver side fuse panel that looks convenient.

Hey guys, I'm back since I just purchased a 2018 CRV EX.
I'm happy with it and I already added a Bose Subwoofer and the Rhino roof racks, tinted windows and front winshield (top only for sun protection) and debaged it as well.
I also added the rear view mirror with a compass.

I got the Bose sub from a Nissan Rogue. My wife's 2017 Mazda CX5 GT comes with the same Bose Sub.
Very easy install. One wire to a constant power, one connected to the accessories power, one negative, and two wires from front speakers.
I used two wires I used from the front speakers. I used a negative from the f right and a positive from the f left.

Will add the splash guards, maybe upgrade the horn and rear sensors.

I was waiting for the new redesigned 2019 Rav4, but I realized that I would not be getting any deals for a while.
I jumped on the 2018 because I got it for a good price.

I want to add the mirror but just not comfortable with the amount of detailed info here to even attempt myself
Not even 100% sure what mirror to buy.
This mirror will do, from fleabay.
The main thing would be for the mirror to have a long arm. I believe this mirror only have two wires, a + and a -.

You can PM me and I can give you more info. I really dislike the regular mirror.

Hello,

Amazing CRV you got there. Impressed with the BOSE sub setup.

This is my first post and I cant link until 4more posts.

Thanks
