Question on Apple Carplay and Android Auto

I am torn between the Touring (For the better headlights and the Nav) vs. the value of the EX-L without Nav. My question is, when using Apple Carplay or Android Auto, in order thave the maps and directions on the 7 inch display and the dash, do you have to plug in the phone all the time, or is it done via Bluetooth? If via Bluetooth, is the connection fast enough? Thanks

It has to be connected to one specific USB port under the center console. It is plenty fast. The biggest negative is that it only gives apple maps, which is better than any nav system.

Read up in the forums -- a lot of owners don't like the built in Nav and are using their Apple or Android mapping instead. I use the Android link and it works great, but I'm not using mapping that much (and I don't have the Nav on my EX).
