thats the GPS symbol. it means you have a GPS connection. even if your car doesnt have navigation it still has a GPS antenna built in so you can use the maps function in carplay/android auto

 

I'm pretty sure that Android Auto uses the GPS in the phone rather than the car.

GPS is used to set the car's clock in models without built-in navigation, and maybe not much else. I suppose there could be some current or future apps that would make use of the GPS.

 

And the govt. to know exactly where you are at any given time.

 

They don't need gps in your car for that
