Trying to figure this out as I'd like have a tech complete some work for me and then leave the Fob in Car as I'm unable to pickup car until the next day.

How can then leave Fob inside, while still locking the CRV completely? I'd then open the following day using Fob #2.

Any ideas???

Huh, so let me get this straight. I could hit lock on key fob button and if someone is on other side of car they could still open the door while I'm just starting to walk away?

So basically if want to steal any new CRV or break-in, crouch on passenger side and as soon person starts walking away, unlock door.

While I agree aluminum foil would work and thanks for idea, seems like there has to be a better way, haha.

Also, just thought about leaving key fob in gas cap, couldn't this also drain battery since fob is communicating with car.

There is a way and my wife unintentionally found it.
1. Lock all of the doors
2. With the fob still on your person open the rear hatch.
3. Throw the fob in the CRV ( in her case it was her purse with fob )
4 Close rear hatch with pushbutton on hatch.
5. When the hatch closes it will lock automatically with fob in CRV.
6. Call husband to come unlock CRV.

My wife performed this experiment as well (fob in purse in the back). She reported that when she went to open the driver's door, it wouldn't unlock. Before performing step 6 above, she tried the hatch, and it opened, saving me a trip.

We just tried to duplicate her experiment and failed. The car wouldn't lock, trying the fob in a few different locations in the back. The behavior may depend a lot on where things are placed. I'd net it out as "your mileage may vary", and wouldn't depend on it at this point.

You can take the key out of the fob and leave the fob in the CR-V then lock the drivers door with the key. This locks all doors and the fob is still in the CR-V. I leave mine running while I go in the convenience store is how I know. Although I have never tried it with the engine not running.

This worked: I put one fob inside a small metal candy tin; when I exited the vehicle with the other fob, the doors locked. Note that I had to physically enter the car with the 2nd fob in order for the sensors to work when I exited the vehicle.

Didn't work: I tried the putting a fob behind the gas tank door. When walking away with the other fob, I would get a single beep, but never the 2nd beep indicating the actual door locking.

Didn't work: I also tried a heavy duty mylar bag (from dog biscuits). It was quite large (about 8X12) and I rolled it around the fob so there were several layers around it. Sometimes (but not always) when exiting the vehicle, I would get the first beep, but never the 2nd one with the actual lock engaging. Although some internet sites claim that mylar will block RFID, this certainly didn't work for the fob.

This is what happened to us. Both Wife and Me have FOB. She left her purse in the car (while walking at the beach). I forgot that the car didn't lock! Glad nothing was taken. A Faraday cage might work.. but what if the CRV "sees a ping" minutes after you walk away.. then it's open for anyone!

Let me ask this very stupid question the Smartkey fob has a key built in, does that fit the Ignition if so problem solved. Yeah its got a immobilize duh so you need the smartkey

duh

I used to simply start my car. lock the door with the inside handle and press lock as the handle was held. or lock the front door via the back. door method

can you not set up the vehicle screen for locking unlocking etc...

Back to my drink

I asked this question at the dealership because I wanted to know how to lock the car and run without having to carry the entire fob in my running shorts.

The rep demonstrated that you could remove the valet key from the fob, toss the fob inside, and then manually lock the door.

By extension of this idea, maybe your tech could leave just the valet key in the gas compartment without needing a faraday cage?

Fuses check to see which fuse for the door or door lock. find it modify a switch, if that is hte importance of not carrying a smart key, you carry your smartphone right. so maybe there is an app to only use your smartphone for your car a a Alarm specialist by Viper. good luck

you can lock fob in car HRV

looking for this info on my 2017 HRV. Could not find it, nor was the dealer any help. "Not Possible" I was able to lock the fob to my HRV in the car, and later unlock with the spare fob: unlock the doors. leave fob in the car. with the drivers door closed, open passenger door, get in the passenger seat and leave passenger door open. lock the doors with the lock button on the driver door arm rest. get out and close passenger door. Car is locked with the fob in it.

I'm not sure how but my dealer managed to accidentally lock the key fob in the car and cut a new key to get back in. Unbeknownst to them I had my second key fob in my pocket and could have unlocked it. Anyway they gave me the key they cut for free.. It was a metal key and not the same as the emergency key inside the fob

I always wondered about all the nuances of the key fob behavior. If it behaved at all like a regular key, whereby the key has to stay in the ignition for the engine to be running, does the same hold true for this key fob? For example, if I exit the car with it running and happen to have the fob in my pocket. Will the car eventually shut itself off when it can no longer detect the fob within the vicinity of the car? Or will the engine continue running the further away from the vehicle a key fob gets?

If the FOB leaves the vehicle while it is running, the engine will still run, as usual. However once you turn it off, you will no longer be able to start the car without the FOB.

I'm still not sure how it happened, but I managed to find the doors to my '17 locked with the fob inside. I don't think I lifted the hatch when I got out of the car. I had to run into the house to get the second fob and unlock the car. Fortunately the car was in the driveway.
