    Question Static Electricity When Exiting.

I've been getting zapped big time when exiting my 2008 CR-V Honda. I recently ordered a grounding chain from China that hanged down from my muffler to the ground. Well it came off as soon as I hit the R.I. roads so when I arrived at my destination, I realized it was no longer attached to my car. So I really never knew if this procedure would work or not. Has anyone ever tried this? And if it works or not? I have read other websites as to other peoples re-course, but nothing about what I have tried. I haven't tried ground the key to the metal before exiting though, kinda worried it would leave marks on my paint. Any HELP would be appreciated.

    Static here as well

I get static shocks as well every time I exit my 2009 EX-AWD. At first I thought it was the carpeting, but now I have Weathertec DigitalFit floormats so my feet never touch the carpeting. I'm thinking that it must be the cloth seats, I don't have leather. As an electrical engineer, I know what damage static can do to components like CPU's etc...I'm worried that one day I will blow something, and Murphy's Law I will be out of warranty. I've tried touching the frame of the door before stepping out, but no such luck. I'm going to try wearing a ground strap for a week on my leg/ankle like we do in the lab at work. I'll let you all know if there is a difference.

next time u get a shock, remember the shoes you are wearing and clothes.
try another pair of shoes and see what happens. sounds funny, but i noticed it makes a difference with the shoes.

I have an 06 MT and figured the shocking was the carpet + MT, but then my wife got the all season mats for Christmas a few years ago, and the problem persisted.
I've just kinda accepted that it is going to happen so when I get out, I tap the bottom of my fist to the window and it defuses the shock.
There is still a slight shock, but I barely notice it since I expect it. I made this common practice during the winter at gas stations and the habit stuck. Now I do it everytime I exit the vehicle. Not really a pain in the butt or problem, but I geuess it is kinda silly that I have to do it all the time.
The little imperfections of your vehicle, or any vehicle will stand out if you are looking for them. But also usually go unoticed if you try not to focus on it.
I used to hate the enormous rear door, so I switched to popping the glass to get anything out. Now, when I open the door I don't even think about the weight.

I have heard to stop this when you exit touch a metal part such as the door and then put your foot out ,this supposedly discharges the electricity so you don't get a shock.

Our 2007 CRV has leather seats and we use rubber mats and we get static shocks so the seat doesn't matter. Doesn't seem to matter warm or cold weather. We just know we are going to get shocked so we touch the metal to let it happen.

    Angry frustrated and scared

I got a 2011 crv about a month ago and it has been shocking me ever since. I have learned to accept that I am going to get shocked and so I kick the door with my knee once I get out to avoid the pain of the shock (the pain of the impact distracts from the pain from the shock).

It is however extremely frustrating when I get shocked even after this procedure. This is not something I want to be dealing with a new car... with any car for that matter! I have rented a couple of cars last month and the shock didn't happen. So I know it is not me nor the weather.. It is my crv.

I recently came across this video http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/misc/static.avi
and it freaked me out so badly, I went on ebay and purchased one of those anti-static straps for cars and an anti static key chain.

Will update upon finding out how those work out...

That is why they say don't get back in when you are pumping. They also say when it catches on fire don't pull it out

I have a 2012 CR-V and I am usually wearing jeans and sneakers when I go out, and when I exit the car and put my hand on the door, I get shocked. I am about to call the dealer and bring the car in because something is definitely not right.
