    2003 CRV LX stuttering

    Hello all

This weekend I'm supposed to go to my mom's to work on her CRV. She said it's a 2003 Honda CRV LX 2WD. The issue with it is that it's cutting out periodically. You can be driving down the road and out of nowhere the engine will just start cutting out. Kind of like a constant stutter. Let off the accelerator and it goes back to normal till you come to a stop. Wash and repeat. Then it may work fine for a couple of days. She said this morning she was driving down the road and it wouldn't stop cutting out and very slow acceleration. She pulled over to the side of the road and put in park. It didn't die or anything so she drove on and and rest of the day it accelerated and drove without any problems. It doesn't give any trouble starting and doesn't act like it's going to die or anything like that. It just stutters and she said the maintenance required light is on.

I was thinking of starting with spark plugs and maybe run it down to Autozone to get codes ran on it but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas that I could take a look at. I know an ok amount about cars but I'm certainly not fluent!

    Thank you!

I'd get the codes from AutoZone first, then proceed. Post back.

How many miles? If over 100K you are due for new plugs and a valve adjustment.

If the plugs were replaced @ 100 K, pull one to verify that they are the recommended Iridium type. Other types will not work for long.

If you pull the plugs, check the coil boots for discoloration or arcing.

A bad ignition switch acts as if you completely turned off the engine.

Gen1s had that issue, not Gen2.

Since the engine runs poorly ("stutters") until restarted, I didn't think it sounded like an ignition issue.

That is a sign of MAF issues to. I would clean it while checking the plugs. Vacuum leaks could cause similar issues too. Post up the codes when you get them.
