Question 1998 CR-V brake warning light

    AAAHHHHH Someone help !!!!!!
i've got a 1998 2litre petrol CR-V driving home from a friends today the brake warning light ((!))came on, its rather erratic but with the engine off and the handbrake off the light stays off when you start the engine the light comes back on then goes off and then comes back on again .Ive checked the usual levels etc ,brake fluid and such but now im confused to say the least .Anyone got any ideas

    thanks in advance

just noticed when stopping if the revs drop below 1000rpm the light goes out and comes back on again when the revs pick
    up again

Mine would come on when cold and go off when warm, "flashing" as it started to warm up. My fluid was above the MIN mark, but filling it to the MAX mark fixed the light. My guess is the sensor / float was getting worn out. Some people also suggest cleaning the screen, but I didn't.

If your brake fluid has been neglected in the past (got all gunky, to use a technical term ) you may have to change the float sensor in the cap.

Mine has come-on sporadically. It comes on when decelerating. I'll see if my CRX brake fluid lid is compatible with the CR-V and try it to see if problem vanishes. I doubt it's the same size.

I took a quick look and the 88-91 CRV and 1997-2001 CRV use the same part number cap.

I guess you mean CRX. I'll try it out on Monday.

I removed and cleaned-out my strainer. It worked! No more brake light going on and off. Now to fix the dim low beams.

guys is it any coincidence that the altenator has packed up and stopped charging less than a week after brake light fault .. could they be related .. i wonder find out tomorrow once ive changed the altenator

Interestingly altenator seems to have cured both faults .... how strange !!!!!
