TPMS Light on New Winter wheels

I just got New winter tires, rims and TPMS sensors installed on my 2007 CRV
I purchased 4 New TPMS sensors from the Honda Dealer and had a Tire shop
sell and mount me up tires and wheels,
I drove about 20 miles down the Highway and the TPMS light came on and now stays on every time I turn the key on. This is just the TPMS light not the
tire Icon. ( or course the tire pressure is staying at the 35 PSI as inflated) The Tire shop Charged me an additional 32.00 for "TPMS TEST AND RESET SENSORS, Although I watched them bolt on the new wheels.
I started the car the first time myself ( In the shop ) and was asked if any TPMS indicator was on " Which fortunatly no indicator lights were on.
I drove away' happy, until the "TPMS" light came on and stays on,
The Tire shop does not appear to have any special hook up tool or computer device, (at least nothing they attached to my car)
for the Honda to do any reset, so I'm not sure what or when or how they did
a " TPMS TEST AND RESET SENSORS" that they charged me 32.00 for

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT EXACTLY HAS TO BE DONE TO "TEST AND RESET SENSORS" ?

also specifically, When installing new TPMS Sensors in new rims ?

and When A person changes over a set of winter tires and rims
    in spring and fall ?

Would I be correct to assume that I am held ransom by a Honda to go into a
dealer and have them do a TPMS RESET ( Probally with a fee?) with their dealer equipment every time I change my set of tires ?
or perhaps every time I take a tire off the car ?

This is the largest supplier of sensors, service kit, and tools for TPMS systems.

There might be more information here, regarding the tools, and what these testers do.

For 32.00, they better make sure things work.
With the rash of compliants on the TPMS systems, I would also check with the dealer to make sure they sold you the correct sensors.

    Ok, here's your problem.

The new CR-V has a TPMS system which can only learn one set of sensors at a time. So even if you buy a full set of rims, the correct TPMS sensors and tires and bolt them on, you're gonna set off the TPMS light. Why? This is because the ECM (car's computer) has not learned the ID of the new sensors you just put on and the light is telling you that it's not getting any signal from at least one of the sensors (because it is still looking for the old TPMS sensors). The only way to do this is to have the Honda dealer hook up the ECM to the HDS (Honda's dignostic scan tool) and use a TPMS sensor initializer tool (this activates the sensors even though the wheels are not moving) to ensure all the TMPS sensors are visible to the ECM. All these acronyms may sound confusing, but the bottom line is that you need to do is to go to the Honda dealer to get the TPMS working again and get your $32 back from the tire dealer because there's nothing he can do to fix it. You also are going to have to go through this each and every time you swap rims for winter/summer (it's not like it used to be anymore where you could just swap rims at will). Another workable option is to just swap winter/summer tires on the same set of rims thereby keeping the same TPMS sensors in the ECM's memory at all times. The only other workaround is to set your summer tires to work with the TPMS and then pull the VSA fuse to disable TPMS for winter tires.

Question CRV winter tires without TPMS

I am also considering getting a set of winter tires and rims for my 2007 CRV. I am debating on whether I should get the TPMS for them. I would like to know what would happen without TPMS? Is it just the TPMS light on ? If I can't disable the warning light, Would it caused other maintenance light coming on eariler than it should?

By the way, the Honda dealer has Dunlop winter tires for CRV, is this a good choice among Michelin and Toyo?

    Thanks.

The problem is that the TPMS is linked to other systems like VSA which will remove power from the engine and slow your car down to a crawl because it thinks your tires have no pressure (because it can't find the sensor). The main problem is that even though there is a button to turn off VSA, when the TPMS light is on, you can't turn off VSA (hence the automatic loss of power......total crap that Honda locks this out if you ask me). Many people have said to just pull the VSA fuse as a workaround as I mentioned above.

Is it just the TPMS light on ?

    No, see above.

    No.

The Dunlops have good ice/snow traction, but are a little sloppy on dry roads.

Good review if you haven't seen it:

    Thanks.
I'll try and answer these all in red above.

are the sensors on the steel LX rims the same as the ones in EX mags?
i'm planning to buy oem used honda civic si 17" rims or any oem 17" honda rims or acura 17" rims to replace my steel rims - can the sensors be just transferred to the mags?

    CRV winter tires without TPMS

Hi, what you have said about CRV without TPMS soud like a nightmare.
The problem is that I have to go back to the dealer to have the system to recognize the other set of 4 TBMSwhenver I change the tire. Is the above statement correct ?

The steel wheel TPMS are not the same as the alloy wheel TPMS. The angle that the TPMS comes off is different.

I believe it is correct Unfortunately.

And calling TMPS a nighmare is also correct.

    TPMS On New Wheels

I have been reading all of the problems with TPMS with some interest but have never had any problems myself.

Last Sunday I installed a new set of four winter tires and new steel wheels from Tire Rack. I chose not to get the sensors (have better use for $300+ then a gauranteed trip to the dealer to reset the stupid things every few months). I figured that I would get the TPMS light as soon as I started the car. Everything was fine no light. Hmmm! Damn system must have never worked and that is why I had no problems. And that is good, I could care less if the thing ever works correctly. I can maintain the air pressure quite well without all this claptrap.

Well tonight after having driven the car about 100 miles since Sunday, the light finally came on. No other problems just the light on the dash.

I see in the above posts that an option is to pull the fuse for TPMS. Does anyone know of a good reason not to pull the fuse?
