Bad Ignition Switch 2010 CRV???

I had posted in Dec about my wife telling me that her 2010 CRV would sometimes not start on the first try. I had never seen it happen since I drive the CRV infreqently, so have been guessing from her description of the sound if it was the starter or maybe the battery.

Well.....we just returned from vacation with the CRV and it happened while I was in the car. This time we had to turn the ignition switch on and off 4 times before it would start.

The first three times when we turned the ignition switch to start there was no sounds at all from the engine. What I heard was an electrical buzzing sound coming directly from the ignition switch. Sounded like an electrical short circuit. Only after the 4th try did the engine start as usual (with no buzzing from the ignition switch)

Anyone have a bad ignition switch on a 2009-2011 CRV??? Any TSBs on this issue?? Problem is, since it didn't happen at the dealer when she brought it in they were unable to help. Anything I can do to fix this??

Are you out of warranty?

Does your wife have a bunch of heavy keys on the same chain? That could shorten the ignition switch life.

Still in warranty, but dealer will not do anything unless they see it first hand. Since it happens only a few times a month and did not occur while at the dealer, they can not help. Just a few keys on the ring.

Well it is happening more frequently now so the CRV is going back to the dealer tomorrow for the second time, but this time I can tell them the problem definately seems to be coming from the ignition switch. We'll see what happens

Update: Wife took the car in and, just as before, it started normally at the dealer. However, since we provided a better discription of the sound and where it was coming from, after they checked with someone within Honda on the west coast, the dealer has agreed to take the ingnition switch apart and take a closer look at it. That will happen tomorrow. Hopefully they will find something!

Starter Cut Relay replaced today...hope that takes care of it

Looks like a no go---replacing the starter cut relay did not fix the problem. Tonight same thing--turn to start , no sounds from the engine, electrical buzzing sound from the key area. Turn key off, then back on and everything is normal.

Anyone have any suggestions???

Just want to give an update to see if anyone else is having this issue yet.

Our problem continues..we did get "lucky" and my wife had it happen in front of the service writter at our dealership and she was told that she is not moving the key fast enough when starting the car! Bunch of bull since it has happened to me and I move the key fast, and she does too!

We are bringing it in again for an offical service appt. I am going to ask them for a new ingntion switch since the loud buzzing when the car wont start is coming directly from the steering column.

Anyone else having this yet??

Keep us posted. It sure sounds like an ignition switch problem.

Turn the key VERY slow to see if you can get the noise repeatedly. Our '07 was doing something similar. The noise in our car is the starter relay in the fuse block under the dash behind the left kick panel. In our case when this happened it would not start until released and try again.

Dealer checked with Honda who said this is a problem with no solution but I instructed my wife to turn key to first position, stop briefly, then turn it fast. Hasn't happened using this procedure. After a while she just turns it fast enough every time with no problem.
