    Is my auto transmission toast??

Our 2000 CRV had some recent sluggish shifting issues. We had the fluid changed by the dealer; no change in performance. Had a look at this forum and realized the one-time tranny fluid change doesn't really do the job. But anyway... a few weeks later it's not upshifting properly, banging into gear when it does shift, revving the crap out of our little motor, and generally not working. This is a commuter vehicle with 333,500 km on it. The transmission shop says it's time for a $3000 rebuild. So, is it normal for a tranny with this mileage to be completely worn out. Are there any fluids or flushes or such that could loosen things up, tighten things up, generally convince it to start shifting properly again?? Or should I purchase a casket and flowers, bow my head and say and few words (&%$#!!), then dish up the big bucks for the repair? Anyone have experience with this mileage and similar shifting problems? Also, can any of those used tranny marketers like Auotmotix.net be trusted to take my money and send me a workable tranny or do I just pay to have the original rebuilt locally? I'd much appreciate the advice or experience of others here? Thanks.

From what you have described, yes, your transmission is done. If this is it's first transmission, I'd say it did pretty good for lasting 333,000 kms

The rebuild kit is for 140-200 dollars at rockauto website.

My daughters 96 accord had 250,000 MILES (405000km) on it and was still going strong. Why not do 2 more drain and fills with a few miles only in between changes with the Honda ATF and see if that will help with things before saying you need a transmission rebuild.

You can try a 3x drain & fill. You can also go down to PepBoys and buy everything that says "miracle" on it. What's to lose at this point?

I have a 2000 auto with exactly the same problem. I did the 3 x drain and refill to no avail. Thats not cheap either.
Would be grateful if you posted your outcome please,as i was told the same.....recon box req'd.
Btw....i have carried on driving mine and 6 months later its got no worse .Just harsh upshifting when you put your foot down.
I have just learned not to gun it,and that eases it.
I've posted this in case it helps anyone else with the same prob!
