I just replaced my '06's OE battery (that's 7 years, 105K miles). It never stranded me...just started cranking slow.

Our ist 2012 battery only lasted 3 months. The wife went out to start it one morning and it wouldn't even crank. Nothing had been left on and one cell was very weak. The dealer gave us a new battery and all seems ok but I have a bigger battery in my ridding lawnmower. Has anyone replaced their battery with a bigger one and what sheet metal mods were required?

    JCM,

My dealer said a larger battery would fit ... I forget how many CCA he said (I wouldn't buy it from the dealer anyway). I looked under the hood and it does appear that the metal tray and clamp parts will accept a larger battery. There is a plastic drip tray that would not fit, however.

I just had my 10K service done today, while at the drive entrance, the tester showed a "Weak Starting Battery". Battery was replaced free of charge. The Service MGR decided to do it to avoid any issues later on. The Green Indicator was also not lit up, about a month ago it was dark, then 2 weeks later it was, and today it was not.

the real test for battery voltage should be tested by voltmeter when you starting the car engine, the voltage should not be under 10.5 volt other wise you have damaged cell inside the battery, try to charge the battery by external charger then measure the battery voltage under load.

No matter how some may defend the stock battery,at best it's adequate but the stock battery should have more power reserve.
Someone here even posted that a Honda service rep told him to turn the headlights off if idling for awhile. That's ridiculous.

With only 4,500 miles on your battery, it should recharge as good as new.

When the time comes to replace the battery, I would advise purchasing the strongest Costco battery that will fit your CR-V. You live in cold weather country and the extra Cold Cranking Amps will be evident and comforting. Costco also warrants their batteries for 100 months - over 8 years. That said, I have had Costco batteries last more than 100 months.

    I live in Alaska.

Miles don't count on battery life, overall. Age (mfg date) and charging and discharging do.
If you do end up having to buy your own battery, (bs, as far as I believe) , follow frum's advice.

See if they will tell you what SIZE/Group number that battery would be.

Honda has issued a bulletin regarding software "fix" for certain VIN numbers. Look for the "other thread" on this topic on this site about 2012CRVs and similar Civics with dead batteries. Dealer should re-flash your computer under warranty. Problem is ostensibly due to a failure of the computer to read the state of charge of your battery and to adequately charge the battery, given the software's interpretation of your driving habits. May also need for the dealer to replace the battery if it has a weak cell. Dealer ALERT: If you replace batteries / alternators etc. and the subject vehicle's VIN is covered by this bulletin, Honda will not reimburse you for your costs according to the text of the bulletin. There's a pdf of the bulletin attached to the other thread.
