2001 Honda CRV belt was squeaking, now no charge, check engine and sluggish

    Hello,

Welcome to the CRV owners club from Lenny,

I have a 2001 CRV it is 4X4 Automatic, 150,000 kms not miles.

it has treated me great over the time i have it. Yesterday i noticed a belt squeaking and once i drove it up to speed the squeak would go out of the belt and i thought it worked fine. Today driving i lost the radio, all electronics is dull, no power to anything, lights gone.

I shut it off at a store and there was no charge to the battery and wouldn't start. I got a boost from someone to get me home (thank you person). The CRV is not charging the battery and the check engine light and ABS lights are on in the dash.

Now the CRV is sluggish driving forward it has no power on hills. Is there anything with the Alternator or something related to cause the CRV to be sluggish? I can understand no electrical with a bad Alternator, but why would there be no power on hills even starting out it feels like im towing something, but once i get up to speed on the level its fine.

If anyone can help or give advice it would be greatly appreciated. I have loved my CRV and this is the first major problem with it. I hope its not the valves or anything transmission gone why there is no power.

    Thank you.

Hi CRVlenny, if your alternator is not charging then you are just running on the battery. As the battery runs down there is no power to fire the ignition or run any electrical function. You could just have a loose or worn belt or the alternator has gone bad.

Thank you for the quick reply. with a worn belt or alternator Would this also cause the CRV to operate sluggish and no power on hills?

    thanks,

Did the sluggish power just start when the battery has been low or has the power been going down over time. Your mileage is to the point where it is about time for a major tuneup if that has not been done. You can also find a store like AutoZone to read any codes that are stored in the computer.

    Hello,

Yes it seemed to happen after the battery had been low, first it was no radio or lights, no tach or rpm, then after driving it was sluggish. it was all after the crv lost electrical power. I am hoping it is all related to the alternator. I will check the engine codes with a meter to confirm this. Thank you so much for the quick reply, your help is greatly appreciated.
