2002 CV Axle ABS tone ring

I have been spinning my wheels trying to get information on this with no luck.
The GFs 2002 CR-V EX with only 50K miles has a lovely clunk coming from the right front of the car on accellerating/braking/turning.
I assume it is the cv axles, so I have been trying to get a replacement. All of my local parts stores (Advance, AutoZone, Napa and some independents) only have CV axles without ABS speed sensor tone rings.
I even ordered one from Rock Auto and spoke with a sales guy before I ordered. He says the Cardone shafts are for ABS and non-ABS cars. They have a removeable tone ring if you don't need ABS. That sounds a bit fishy.
Anyway he assures me the parts will work or they will take them back. Sure enough I wait a week for them and they arrive without tone rings like all the other shafts I have seen.
What gives? Am I just unlucky or is the tone ring part of something else?
Has anyone replaced a 2nd Gen front cv axle with ABS?

So I was able to answer my own question yesterday. Looks like the axles don't have tone rings.
They must be built in to the hubs.
Swapping out the CV only took about 30 minutes. Unfortunately the crunching is still there. Need to look deeper for the source of the clunk.

Were the axle boots torn or missing. Axle failure is usually dirt getting into them from torn rubber boots. If not put the original axle you took off back in. Original is better. For your clunk, jack up the front tire and grab the wheel from the sides and push/pull and look for any play. Then hold the tire from the top and bottom and push/pull and look for any play. Then hold the tire from the very bottom only and wiggle it and look for play. If there is any play then it is your bushings. Do this for both front tires.

I am sure you figured it out by now, I am sure it is you lower ball joints. I have now bought a right hand axle shaft because my boot got torn a while back when I replaced my lower ball joints and I see what you mean. I just bought mine from NAPA and there is no tone ring on it and they only show one axle for both applications. Did your ABS work OK after you installed yours.
