    1998 Honda CR-V LX won't start again

    Hey I am back again.

Car has been running ok since the cylinder head has been replaced.

I would say that over the last few months, my sister in law has told me that the car has been difficult to start, has really low idle, and has even cut of on her a few times.

Last couple times she could not start it.

I went over there after the car had been sitting, and it fired right up. at first the idle was real low like it was ready to cut off and then I gave it some gas and it ran ok.

The next day she called me to say it started up ion the morning. She got about half way down the block, and it started spitting and sputtering then just cut off.

I came over and picked up her battery and charged it overnight. next morning reconnected and could not get it started.

She had it towed to my house. It sat for two days while I gave the battery a trickle charge.

Just put the battery in and it fired up, but only a little. Maybe for half a sec it ran like it was gonna cut off then cut off and will not fire up again.

I believe it is the fuel pump.

I just want to know what is the correct way to test this fuel pump.

Yes, suspect the fuel pump. Do you hear the pump hum for 2 seconds as you turn the ignition on (but not to the 'crank' position)? While it may not totally cure your problem, try cleaning the Idle Air Control Valves. I may be wrong but I think there are two of them in your car model.

Yes I can definitely hear the fuel pump. In fact I never just start cranking right away. I put the key in th eon position and listen, then when the lights go out then I crank

Ok I have read the manual and I see where I am suppose to hook up the fuel gauge, but it says to test the pressure with the car running.

How can I test the pressure if the car will not start.

    Any suggestions

Those early CRV's had problems with the ignition coil failing. Check for a solid blue spark. Make sure you keep the spark plug wire grounded while cranking the engine or it can actually cause coil problems (use a spare spark plug connected to the spark plug wire and keep the plug grounded while someone else is cranking the engine over.
The fuel filter in those early CRV's are easy to change and cost around $20 US.

PS:I can't help on suggesting how to check the fuel pressure, but googling may help find the solution, maybe even youtube.
    EDIT:
I just read your original post when you first started having problems and noticed that you did replace the coil and ICM.
You originally had no spark (or a very weak one) until you plugged in the code tester.
You also stated that you rerouted or replaced a 'ground' wire. Does your Check Engine light still stay on for only 3 sec or continually when you have the the ignition on but the engine not running?
It sounds like you are back to a no spark situation, is that correct?

the fuel rail has a nut on the end. pop that a little it should be a 17mm.. there should be fuel leaking out a little... have a friend crank the car and see if fuel comes out.. if it does then you got pressure... next in line is your injectors or fuel filter...

Thank you for all he suggestions, but spark is good.

After car sat for 24 hours. Went to start and it tried to start up.

I took a chance and ordered a fuel pump.

She fired right up no problem.

    Car is running again.

Thank you to all who answered my post

That is a good suggestion to see if fuel is being pumped, but it does not give a true fuel pressure reading.

I know from experience that a fuel pump can pump fuel, but just not have enough pressure generated to start car and keep running.

I did check repair manual and see where to hook up to take a fuel reading, but it only tells you that the car must be running to measure fuel pressure.

There has to be a way to check pressure without car running that could tell if the pump is bad or not.

I do appreciate the advice. Thank you very much
