    01 CRV burnt valve. Options?

My wife and i bought this car back in march it as a super clean 01 CRV 4wd manual trans. Car had high miles on it 186k when we bought it but it ran good and had lost of power. In August my wife noticed that the check engine light was on. I pulled the plugs and they were shot. Dealer said they did them but i went ahead and replaced them. Light went away and the car drove normal.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and the light comes back on. This time its flashing and the car has a noticeable miss at idle. SO i do a full tune up this time. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor(that was a royal pain) miss is still there. But if you rev up the motor the miss goes away, i detemind this by pulling the #1 plug wire and reving the motor and then reattaching the plug wire and reving the motor. The car drives fine at speed, it only at low speeds and stops that you notice the miss. 70mph down the highway the car has full power and no shuddering or anything..

Did a compression test on the #1 cylinder and it has no compression. Looked it up and it seems to be a commmon problem.

Now here is the issue. The CRV now has 193k on it. The motor ran fantastic up till 2 weeks ago. I have recently put all new tires, brakes, and a new rad in the car. I think i can get away with pulling the head and putting in a new valve but is the motor worth the money? We still have 3.5 years left on the loan( we werent married when we bought the car and she is still in nursing school.) Money is tight as always

    Any insight or advice.

If you do a valve job, also replace the timing belt and water pump. These cars just require timing belt, valve adjustment.

If you are equipped to pull the head,Its a good idea.I do suggest however you take it to a local machine shop, have the defect valve replaced, and the rest checked, and remaining valves/seats reground as well as new valve seals.A "Top end gasket set" will be in order,as well as new timing belt, water pump etc as mentioned earlier.Fresh oil,and filter etc.You will also need new head bolts.
Replacing just the one burnt valve may work for the short term, but if you have the head "reworked" completely, you can pretty much figure this problem will never come back.....Cheers!

Before driving it any more I would adjust the valves, you may get lucky and not have to tear it apart. It won't cost anything to try that first !

Sorry I didn't respond. I pulled the head and put a new valve in. Everything is back together but the car will not start now. Timing is dead in new belt and pump.

We have spark we have fuel and compression. But now fire? Car ran before we pulled it apart. Ad everythingis hooked up.

    Ideas?
