Cruise Controls Goes off by itself and A/C light comes on when it shouldn't

Just bought the 2002 CRV EX on Saturday. I love it but it has a couple of problems. One is that the cruise control works fine--for awhile. Maybe 3-45 miles, then goes off. Sometimes it will kick itself back on. Other times to get it to work again, you have to push the button on the dash to the off position and then wait a couple minutes and push it back it and then set cruise control again. That usually works for a few more miles 10-14, then it goes off again. The brake fluid is at the level its supposed to be which I have heard could be the problem, but it isn't.

Also, when I turn the defrost on, the A/C comes on and I can hear the A/C pump come on. It does blow warm air--I've just never had a car that when you turn the heat on and the turn it to defrost that the A/C came on.

I'm also new to this forum and don't exactly understand how to search for things, so IF this is a common occurence that I haven't found the answers for, please excuse me.

I'm just sitting here in the winter wonderland awaiting some information.

    Thanks,

My Ford will turn the A/C on when the defrost is selected. I believe the idea is to dehumidify the air blowing on the windshield.
A faulty brake light switch can cause the cruise to turn off randomly, but that would not explain the cruise coming back on. Sorry, there must be something else wrong.

The AC will go on automatically when the system is set to defrost. This helps take the humidity out of the air and helps keep the windows from frosting up or fogging up. You can turn the ac off, manually, if you wish, while still having the defroster on.
The brake light switch also controls the cruise control and perhaps it is just out of adjustment or going bad. It is pretty cheap and easy to replace. It is located so that it is activated by the arm attached to the brake pedal. Perhaps a bump or a brush of the pedal with your foot is causing the cruise control to go off. If it is not the switch, I have no idea.

You can buy that switch at an auto parts store, probably much cheaper than a genuine Honda part.
