Those meters are just guesstimates, the only way to tell what your actual mileage is, is to put 10-20 tanks of fuel through calculating distance traveled/ quantity of fuel and averaging them out for an "average fuel consumption" figure. Forget about the "meters" they are a snap shot of your consumption at that very second under those very conditions.

+1. Don't even pay attention to those. That fuel consumption gauge is just a gee-whiz device.

Do this. Do a complete fillup with gas. Record your mileage. Drive until you've used about 3/4 of a tank. Fill up again and once more record your mileage and this time record the amount of gas it took to fill it up. Subtract the 1st mileage from the last; that is how many miles you've traveled since the last fillup. Now take the # of miles driven and divide it by the number of gallons of gas it took to fill up your last tankfull. That will give you the accurate fuel consumption.

I like to keep track of my gas consumption so I do it with a spreadsheet. Below is an example for November of last year. This is very simple to do:

    DATE.. MILES... Gallons... Cost...... MPG...
    11..... 24,641... 11.357... $36.10... 21.8
    17..... 24,829... 7.899..... $25.27... 23.8
    18..... 25,038... 8.471..... $26.59... 24.7

Here's one of the calculations. See the MPG figure for the 17th. This is how it's calculated: (24829mi-24641mi)/7.899 gals = 23.8 miles/gallon
