Question 97 CRV Front Shaft Removal

I have a loose joint in my front drive shaft on my passenger side, is it safe to remove this shaft and drive the CRV until the U joint/CV Joint / shaft is replaced?

    Thanks,

    Peg

That doesn't sound like a good idea. Unless you only want to drive in circles on the side of the car - you can take it out, but get it replaced before the car is driven again.

With one axle out of the car you wouldn't move 3 inches.....unless it rolled when you took your foot off the brake.

Reminds me of the modded Integra on the 710N freeway today. His passenger -side axle came out. Caused a jam up for three miles.

    Removal of front drive shaft....

I had removed the rear drive shaft and drove it for a couple weeks while it was off and I had no problems other then no 4 wheel drive. So I was just wondering if the same could be done for a front drive shaft. Thanks for all the replys.... yes even you funny guys.

The problem is that your V has open differentials. You can live without torque going to the rear axle but if you remove either of the front shafts, it would be like having one wheel on ice and all the torque would flow to the disconnected side leaving none to move the car (connected side). Sorry no limited slip differentials (LSD) in CR-Vs.
