    2001 Hatchback Closing Problem

I am having problems with my 2001 Hatchback. The upper glass portion simply refuses to latch unless it is forcefully slammed several times. Then other times it latches the first time it is closed. This is extremely frustrating and seems to be getting worse. How do I repair it?

I'm assuming you have a CRV. When you say "hatchback", that sounds like the Civic CRX, which is a hatchback. Well anyways, your latch is probably going bad or has broken bits inside. So I would change out the latch.

Sorry, I am not sure about car terminology. I guess I am just not "up" on things like that.

You were not right in the diagnosis though. It was the upper part of the latch that needed to be secured as it was wiggling and loose. It took less than 5 minutes to fix the problem and just a screwdriver instead of taking the whole lower portion of the car apart.

Glad you fixed it. Even though your update was a little late

I KNOW! I've been so worried!

Bryncalyn, glad it worked out. You probably figured this out, but the same concept applies to the doors, when they are hard to close, or don't align with the body panels.

BTW, FWIW, The upper glass is definitely a hatch, at least in my book.

Yup, tailgates flop down, hatches flip up.

I am having same issue too, I keep worrying that if I don't check it then 1 day it might be little open and the rain will come in I'll be in trouble.

The other part that opens the " hatchback/trunk"door handle keeps getting stuck. It hurts my hand and not convenient when you're carrying things expecting it to open and the rain is coming down

I also have same problem. The struts ends that connect to the rear glass get bend and you have to replace them.
You will need a pair of each of these parts if you want to replace both strut ends:

    90101-SR3-000 $8.62

    90105-SR3-000 $1.76

    90106-SR3-000 $3.12
    http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...6-SR3-000.html

To open the strut end, take a monkey wrench and hold the nut on top of the glass and take a wrench and unscrew the bottom. Carefully open it be sure not to damage the glass. For me, the right side is bent and it is really hard to close the glass. I am going to do it soon.
