Honda is recalling 268,655 CR-Vs for faulty driver's side power-window switches that could catch fire if they get wet, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is the automaker's third recall this month.
NHTSA had been investigating the CR-V for possible switch fires since November 2010, when it received complaints from three owners of 2006 models. Honda had denied on at least two separate occasions that the switches were responsible for the blazes. Then in July and August, the switches in two more CR-Vs caught fire, including a 2004 CR-V.
Starting in November, Honda will replace any damaged parts and install a cover to block liquids from entering the switch housing. Only vehicles from the 2002 to 2006 model years are affected. Concerned owners can contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.
