AC blows warm air when we stop/idle

The AC used to blow cold when we start the car. Now it blows warm air during start up. Also, when I stop at a light, the AC blows warm air. Once I'm moving it gets quite cold. The AC was totally rebuilt about 13 months ago. Is this a case of needing to reload the AC with the refrigerant?

Does it blow cold or warm air when you turn the car on in the morning?

It is possible that the A/C is overheating and turns off due to the lack of air flow. May need to check that the fans are spinning when you turn on A/C.

Who rebuilt your A/C? Did you have the compressor explosion?

Bankston Honda (TX). They replaced the whole AC system for around $3100. It ran beautifully through the Summer, and it still runs now as long as the car is moving.

Wow. That's ridiculous. You would think it would work perfectly after having it completely repaired.

I have a 2002 that my son drives and I'm just waiting for the A/C to go. Did Honda "goodwill" any of your repair?

It ran beautifully for a year. Only noticed the warm-at-idle issue this past week, as temps crept up to the 90-100 degree mark.

Honda Goodwill. Nope. They turned their back on me since the car had 135,000 miles on it.

I wonder if they'll help now if this turns out to be an issue that requires more money to be spent? I mean, I did pay for the ENTIRE system to be rebuilt, and about 13 or so months ago.

I'm going to give Bankston Honda a call once I hit "send"....

You gotta have A/C in Texas! The whole A/C thing in the early second generation CR-V is something Honda should own up to. I know many have commented about this, but when it happens to you, it really must suck.

It's clearly a defect. Good luck with the dealership.

Make sure your electric RADIATOR fan is running while you have your AC on.

My bet is that your radiator fan has failed. (It pulls air thru your air conditioner's condenser)

    Please verify and report ?

Thanks for all the helpful responses!

I called Bankston to confirm a Saturday morning appointment. They know me as one of the imploding AC system guys, so I hope they can find the root cause and come back with a reasonable quote.

    I'll post when it's over.

    A/C blows hot when stopped

My 2007 CRV with 115k a/c works great when on the highway even in 100F temps. However when coming to a traffic stop or other non-moving situation warm then hot air blows out the vents. After starting up again in 5 - 10 minutes the air blows cold again.

Three dealers checked the system fluid level, pressures and leak tested the system. All passed Honda spec. No severe damage to the condenser either. Dealer today FINALLY told me that due to excessively hot temps in the southern US this year THEY RECOMMEND KEEPING THE RECIRC ON ALL THE TIME. I tried this and the problem at stop signs was cured. Now to see if it is cured in a 5+ minute traffic stop as we are experiencing on our interstate highways lately.

Every tech that worked on it has a theory from the evaporative thermostat to the evaporative filter whatever that is.
