This job is super easy and cost under $25. 30mins max. The car doesn't even need to be jacked up.
Wow, the newer generation CRVs are quite maintenance heavy on that rear diff! Much less often on my 2005 CRV. If your vehicle is still under warranty, make sure you keep the receipts of your purchase of the Honda fluid and also document your maintenance within your owner's manual. This way if any happens to that rear end, you have the proof that you maintained it according to the manual. Even then Honda will probably give you a hard time. very easy job, i do it in mine. No flush required, just drain and fill.
Looking at the REAR DIFFERENTIAL - MOUNT (1) - BLOCK DIAGRAM & PARTS LIST for the 2012 CRV:
http://estore.honda.com/honda/parts/
Seems like the fill hole needs a part #50 20mm crush washer (#94109-20000) but the drain hole needs a part #39 18mm crush washer (#90471-PX4-000) Am I looking at the diagram correctly?![]()
You might be correct for 2012.
You can always buy an extra 20mm and save it for the next time.
2005 is in the Gen-2, I think the owner's manual gave a > 60K service interval, which is wrong. In fact, most of the Gen-2 CRVs need to replace the fluid at about 25k,
which a lot people missed, as the owner's manual said so. So even the new CRVs need the service more frequently, it's still better than giving a wrong, lengthy interval
My wife just called me from the dealer. They want $100 to change the rear differential fluid. I asked her to pick up two qts for honda fluid and two 20 mm crush washers. Parts cost was about $25. After looking at Pearl's photos, refilling the fluid looks a bit tricky requiring some hose to reach the fill hole. Is that still the case for a 2013 CR-V?
You could use one of the cheap fluid pumps
