I have a 2011 CR-V and plan on servicing my brakes when needed (might be a ways off). I had the oil changed last weekend and asked the dealer what they'd charge for front/rear pads. They quoted me $450 which included 4 sets of pads and turning the rotors. Only reason I took it in for an oil change is because it was 10F outside.

I'm going to stick with OEM pads but doing it myself is a lot cheaper than they're quote. I plan to use this on the pins/bushings/etc. I also picked up a pad spreader for the front pads and a rear disc caliper compression tool as the pistons in the rear need to be turned back in.

It won't hurt to call local Honda dealers to match online prices....I always call the 2 local Honda dealers to see if they can match the online prices for parts, and most times 1 of them will match or sell slightly higher but not more than retail price.

I don't have a problem using aftermarket parts, but I'd think you'd be around the same price for aftermarket pads that will hold up as well as the OEMs. I'm hoping I don't have to replace or turn rotors during my first pad replacement. I'm definitely not going with the cheap pads, and pads at the parts stores can reach up into the $75 range. Anyone have any comments about aftermarket pads that last as long as OEMs? I've looked at WearEver and Wagner pads.

I actually think that the rears are compressed the same way as the fronts and don't need to be turned back in.

    ^^^ That is correct.

Rear brake calipers that need to be "turned-in" to retract, are usually used as the parking brake as well as the service brake.

All Vs with rear disc brakes (2002 and up) have a separate parking brake system that is housed withing the center hub of the rotor. So, you don't need any special tools to retract the piston back into the caliper.

Heck, I don't even use a tool, I just pull and wiggle until the piston is flush with the caliper. <<<--- No Jokes Please... Hondas are EASY to replace brakes on.

Thanks Brett & CarBuff, good to know, I'll be returning the tool (still in the packaging). Did I see correctly that the '11 Vs have dual piston calipers in the front?
