Anyone changed a headlight bulb?

On my 2006 Gen 2 CTDi my left headlamp occasionally goes off. If i give the lamp cover a slap it comes on again. This happened twice about a month apart. Looks like a loose connection possibly in the bulb filament

So i thought i would remove tbe lamp and take a look. The instructions look pretty straightforward - pull away the connector, remove the rubber ring, undo the clip, remove the bulb and then put it all back in reverse order. I thought this looked too good to be true. With my Jazz, the headlight bulb is accessed via the wheel arch!

Until I opened the bonnet. The headlamp is crammed behind other stuff and a stiffening bar on top. Access is just abojt possible but i had the strongest feeling that putting it all back together would be impossible in the tight space. And i'll bet the rubber ring is brittle after 7 years.

Am i being too negative? Has anyone tried replacing a bulb? I am talking about the main headlamp which is the least accessable

I have no idea about UK 2005 tdi, but there are many generation 2 CRV headlight change videos on YouTube. Maybe that will help you.

I've changed that lamp on my 2006 a couple of times. It's quite cramped, even with my small hands and skinny wrists. Working the holder clip is a challenge because you can't see it with your arm/hand in the way. But even still, the job takes me 5-10 minutes instead of the 1-2 minutes on many other cars. BTW, the rubber ring will be fine, no worries there.

Wear rubber gloves, and do not touch the lamp
during reassembly.
verify the connector is tight before reassembly.

Drivers side is a little cramped due to a fuse box, but it is doable without removing the fuse box. I recommend changing the passengers side first to get a good idea on what you are doing. You have more room to work with on that side.
