Question need to change transmission fluid

I have a CRV 2007 and am due for a transmission fluid change, I have a B 1 3 code. Would you guys trust firestone to do the transmission fluid change or should i goto the dealer? I dont think changing it would be rocket science or is it very involved and best to go to honda?

This is very easy DIY. just buy 4 quarts of ( Honda ) fluid and a new crush washer. Use only Honda fluid. You don't even need to jack the car up. The drain bolt is close to the front and it will drain 3-3.5 quarts. Just replace with the same amount and then check the dipstick per the manual. Refill in the dipstick tube.

Yup, easier than an oil change. I refilled w/almost 3.5 Qts of Honda ATF. torque value for drain plug = 36 lbf-ft.

Anyone can correct me if Im wrong but just one drain and fill only gets about 1/3 of the old trany fluid out. you need ti do it three times.
My first CR-V will be picked up today, the first I have owned, but I've owned about every other honda there is. And I have done all of them 3x drain and fill. 9 qrts. at 7 or 8 bucks each is probably cheaper than having it done by someone else.

If you change it every 30K miles, a one time drain and fill will be just fine. Once every 30K has worked for my old Accord that now has 196,000 trouble free miles. If you wait till you have 60k or more then yes a 3x drain and fill would be in order.

When you do an oil change, it is much easier to add the new motor oil. Adding the AT oil is a little trickier.

PS:Adding the new Honda AT fluid is the hardest part, and it isn't hard at all. Draining the old AT fluid is actually easier than draining the motor oil and removing its filter, at least on a 2000 CRV.

I have a long funnel - check Walmart or an autoparts store.

Who ever you have do it make sure to use only Honda ATF-DW1. Four quarts of Honda fluid will cost about $36 from the dealer or you can buy a case of 12 on line from Majestic Honda for $86 delivered to your door. Take the fluid and a new crush washer to the shop of your choice. The crush washer part # is 90471-PX4-000 = $2.20 ea and the part # for the fluid is 08200-9008 if you want to order on line. Don't let them try to sell you a transmission flush, Hondas only require a simple drain and refill.

I wouldn't bring the car anywhere NEAR a Firestone store.

They will try to tell you their own bulk trans fluid with it's "Special Modifiers" is as good as Honda ATF. It's not. Many folks have problems down the line when that happens.

You should go to the dealer, OR an independent Honda specialist, OR ask a corner gas station to change your trans fluid WITH THE GENUINE ATF YOU WILL BRING IN.

(In eeps24's defense, many folks don't like to do their own work without a garage, or they live in a complex or community that prohibits it)
