    Engine whine

I've recently noticed on my 2008 CRV an engine whining noise when I start the engine in cold weather. This noise continues for a few minutes till the car warms up and while it is not moving. Is this a known issue?Again, this is in very cold weather below freezing.

Could be the alternator. Don't know if the torque converter would do it- could try shifting to neutral to see if sound changes. Our 2005 at -32C does not make any whine when cold.

My 08 does the same. The cold will cause things to be noiser than normal until things warm up. I wouldnt worry about it.

    Same on my 07

I get the same noise below 30 degrees. It sounds as though it is a hydraulic noise, either transmission or powersteering--although the alternator is a possibility. Never popped the hood to check it out. It only lasts for several minutes.

Maybe the power steering pump as it is high on the engine and easily heard. Try moving the steering wheel back and forth a little - if it is the pump, the whine will increase. I can usually tell when a Ford is behind me - I hear the power steering pump whining.
