IF they match the FCC ID on the original remote; they can be programmed........ at a Honda dealer.

a quick search says the FCC ID's don't match, but check anyways. If you don't have the two remotes to check, then just try programming them, worst case scenerio, is it doesn't work. and you DO NOT need to do it at a honda dealership. You can do it yourself. The steps to programming it should be easily found online. all the instructions i've read so far for Honda fobs are more or less the same, so it doesn't matter for which car the instructions are for.

OK so I ordered a switchblade key from ebay. I then went to see my dealer to inquire about ordering a Key fob. They quoted me 30.00 for the Key and 98.00 for the programming. I then sent an email to Bernardi parts and asked if I would be able to program the key. Here is the response (which is what my dealer told me as well)

    Hi

Thanks for contacting BernardiParts.com customer service.

My name is Nathan and it will be my pleasure in assisting you today.

You could program the keyless entry but you need the dealer to program the key to your vehicle.

This key fob 72147-TP6-A21 you are inquiring about has to be programmed by a Honda dealer. It has an immobilizer chip.

If you have any questions. Please contact us.

    Regards,

    Nathan

So while we can program the key fob to lock/unlock the doors; we still need the Dealer to program the chip IF your CR-V is equipped with the security system.

The Key I ordered off of e-bay I may just take the guts out of one of my keys and leave it at that. 98.00 to program the chip seems outrageous to me. My Dealer will however cut the switchblade key for me at no cost.

taking the immobilizer out of your current key and placing it in to the new key is the cheaper alternative. HOWEVER, assuming there's a programmable immobilizer in the new key, some locksmiths can duplicate the signal from the current key and put that onto the new key. it'll be cheaper than the 98.00 at the dealership, but not the 0.00 that it'd be if you just took the chip out of the current key. You won't have to take apart your current key, which can be considered a good thing

Aye. The LX and EX models that do not come with the security system have it a bit easier there for sure. I was looking into a whole new key so I would not only have another spare but to also keep them stock. The joke of it all is the chip is nothing more than an RF ID pill which take about a second to program. I will be in a holding position until I receive the switchblade key from China. Once I get it; I'll make a choice I guess. In the end; it would be cheaper (for me) to go with the dealer. There is only one locksmith locally that claims they can do it but they want more to do it than the dealer.
