Car: 2011 EX-L (extra fast red edition ;-) ) 4wd. 225/ 65/ 17 Original Bridgestone Duellers on it now.
Moving to Managua Nicarague this summer for a few years. Roads are a bit rough, pot holes, gravel! I do not foresee myself doing any serious off roading!!
Sort of have it down to 3 tires based on anothers recommendation.
1) Yokohama Geolander AT-S Guy at the good year dealership said its an ok tire (he didnt seem to know a lot about it) But he said the side walls may be a bit weak?? Around $470 out the door
2) Goodyear Fortera SilentArmor
3) Goodyear Fortera TripleTread I think around $660 out the door--they have a by 4 get 1 free sale on, plus a few other incentives.
Of course they were pitching the Triple tread as they said it was the top of the line good year tire.
Any suggestions of other tires for crappy road conditions or which of the 3 would be better, is greatly appreciated.
Geolanders are good....but why take a new V all the way over there? IMO sell it and get a 2014 or have a mint condition 2011 upon return. Have a nice trip either way.
Goodyear Eagle DuraTracs. Can be had (well for a 31") for just over $160 a piece on discounttiredirect with free shipping.
They're a commercial on/off road, have good tread life and depth, good on road behavior and a lot of people (like myself) have had awesome results in crap.. for example getting back to our hunting grounds in hunting season is a pain.. ice, snow, steep rutted up dirt hill (enough that even a 2500 Ram diesel has trouble with the hill in 4wd on stockish tires with a running start). The DuraTracs I have on the Xterra get up no problem.
When 1 is moving to Nic--the vehicle one is bringing over must be less than 5 yrs old! Pricing out 2-3 yr old CRV's---well might as well bu ya new 1,lol And Ya i'm sure it will get beaten up! The Geolanders are $466 INSTALLED!!! Shop close by had them fort by 3, get 1 free deal
Oops! Guess they quoted the price incorrectly!! Turns out they had been doing it al day yesterday, due to their computer screwing up,lol He said he had been getting yelled at all day! We al make mistakes! Ordered the tires from Tirerack.com at $120 a piece--excellent customer service, tired should arrive within 1-2 business days.
Short update: Ordered Tires from Tirerack around 1700 Wed. They were at the garage by 1315 Thursday! Installed today and with the limited driving I did, the ride seemed better and quiter!! And yes if you read any of my other mind altering posts, I did NOT find the Duelers to be that loud!! But The Geolanders were quieter! So far very happy with them! Time will tell!!
Me again, another update if anyone cares! Have over 1000 miles on the new tires. Biggest trip has been from DC to Newport Ri and back! Really like the tires. Appear to be quieter than the old Duellers. Fuel mpg is around the same, sorry I don't watch it like an eagle. But stay around 65mph and easily gets over 30mpg on the highway, the magical # for crappy gas mpg appears to be anything over 70. I really like the look of the tire, it does beef it up, a little less soccor-mom like
The real test will come in Nicaragua. It gets shipped out early Aug and who knows when it arrives! May just buy a beater down there to play with as well. Just like to say a HUGE thanks to everyone who posts on this site. It is truly a friendly site. Other forums I partake in, can get a bit nasty! TY all for all the great info, I keep learning a great deal.
