Who/what to trust when researching replacement tires?

Recently bought a 08 CRV EXL that has brand new Bridgestone H/T duelers on the front and
some well used ones on the back. These tires are universally panned and since I like to have all 4 tires the same (brand/size/mileage) the exhaustive research has begun using Tirerack(TR), Consumers Report(CR) and other internet sources. Asking here on the Forum "what's the best tire" is old hat and rarely illuminating.
What do others think the best resources are?
    The TR test?
    The TR surveys?
    The CR ratings?
Some of the best rated tires on TR aren't recommended by CR.
To get more specific the Continental ProContact Ecoplus seems like a good tire fairly priced. It tied the Michelin Defender in one of the tests (especially wet track) but is not rated as well by surveys though recommended by CR and got beat by in other tests on TR.
The Dueler Alenza is not recomended by CR but scored well at TR. Ditto Firestone Precision Touring.
Maybe this explains why "what's the best tire" questions here are hopelessly inconclusive.
    Who do you trust?

Looking for your basic All Season tire. Trying to keep it below $700.00 all-in. got a local installer but not opposed to a tire shop if the dal is right.
Live in Chicago so we drive in everything but rarely deep snow nowadays.
Being from Chicago it would be nice to develop a tire that can cut through all the politicians hooey too
but that's asking a bit much.

Thank you for the additional information ChiGray.

I recommend looking into the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max. This tire has proven successful for the CR-V and offers excellent traction in all conditions. Here's the link with more details.

With installation and sales tax the total out the door price should be right around your $700.00 budget through your local Discount Tire.

last November I purchased the Goodyear assurance tripletred for my 2011 CRV. I read by others and was advised by Goodyear that the tripletread were the best out of the two for traction but the assurance touring ride was softer and less road noise. So far with 2400 miles on the tripletred and on all raod conditions I am very impressed and happy with my purchase. The only time I noticed any additional road noise was when the temp was 8*F and snow covered roads. Part of the noise could have been the build up of ice and snow in the wheelwell. Great traction in snow, water, and light off road to date. I am waiting to see how they are wearing at the 5K rotoation. Goodyear had a deal providing a $160.00 Visa rebate card if you purchase with a goodyear card which also is zero % for 6 months.

    Hi,
Michelin Latitude Tour HP is the another silent, soft, four season tire. Dry, wet and snow performance a lot better than duelers. I did 40k without any wear sign. I don't have an experiance with assurance, so can not compare with it.
    Good luck..
