Makeshift bed for one in 2010 CR-V

I've been looking for a way to spend a night during a road trip in my CR-V with a reasonable amount of comfort and no mods necessary. This works quite well.
All you need is a wedge foam pillow ($30.00 or so at Walgreens or Ebay). Passenger seat moves to full forward position and fully reclined with the headrest removed. Back seats fully to the rear and fully reclined. Wedge pillow placed as shown in the picture and voila. Surprisingly comfortable even for a 6 footer like myself. Head up front position gives you access dash controls.

OK, I slept in my car plenty of times while in college. But not in several years (oops, I mean decades.)

n00b here. :)

Annnnnd it looks like Holy Thread Resurrection on my part! Apologies, searched for info, and this was the best I could find.

We have just joined the CR-V family, would like to do some "tenderfoot camping" in the V. We've considered a tent, but I'm sure that we'd rather wake up, nicely refreshed in the morning in the V with "First World Problems" like morning breath and bed-head - than under a collapsed tent in the middle of the night with an angry mama bear eating our faces off.

TBH, I'd actually prefer to wake up about 7 am, sporting the dreaded pillow-face with all the wrinkles I can get that last till 10:30... than playing a game of Milk Bone with Gentle Ben (who, much to our shared chagrin, isn't that gentle when he picks up on the scent of pulled pork sandwiches on my blissfully slow slumbering breath at 2:17 am).

Ha, so, anyhow... the V looks doable as-is, but my lovely bride is one who appreciates the finer things in life (after all, she has chosen to be married to me :) - and her back and neck is sometimes a little tricky), and it occurred to me that I'd like to make a futon frame to put into the back of the V that faces rearward, so we can camp and face out back with the lift gate open until bed time, then flip the seats forward and drop the futon frame's back into bed shape. I'm thinking it'd take up some space and might reduce the appeal a little, so it needs to be removable and able to be stored, probably in pieces.

Was thinking of a few factors:
1. Folding wooden frame
2. Padded mattress
3. Frame shape set up to level out any ramping from the folded forward back seat
4. Bottom of frame seat set up with some storage underneath
5. Compact when not in use
6. Sturdy enough for 2 adults
7. ?

Can anyone think of ideas?

I was hoping to make this out of wood, then put instructions online here. We have a 2013 EX-L with AWD, look forward to weekends and holidays to scenic locations, some of which the CR-V could actually be nicer than some of the hotel accomodations.

So I don't reinvent the wheel, has anyone seen this before? And if not, would anyone else be interested in the design - or would it be something we'd be better off just enjoying on our own?

Many thanks,

Front flush with back?

Is it the photo, or is the back of the front seat not flush with the front of the back seat? Checked my '07 LX and '10 EXL and they both will go flush. It does take some "encouragement" but they are designed to do so.

Driver's and passenger's seats will do on '07 through '11 on LX and EX. EXL power driver's seat will not.

The wedge is a great idea. Another one, perhaps less in thickness, might make the back seat more comfortable also?

It is sooo much easier to just fold the front seats forward and throw in a blow up mattress in the back.

Rickman, thanks. The lovely wife and I were scoping it out last night, and with the RES, decided we would like to sleep with our heads toward the tailgate and feet toward the windshield so we can watch a movie. But the floorboards feels awfully low, and I think I want to have more padding to even it up a bit.

I'm considering a few things, and bear in mind I'm also wanting to have a rear-facing seat so.I can go to the Galaxy Drive In near Ennis and some other things, and tailgating like that will be a lot of fun with a setup like that. Unfortunately, I think the blow-up mattress (LOL, spillcheck called it a blow up mistress?) Won't do what I need it to do.

Sleep setup needed for 2013 CRV

NOTE: This post is referring to dane714 example above which I can't quote because of limitations with the system. (I'm new here and have not posted at least 5 times yet. Here is the quote I'm referring to ... see their photo. "I've been looking for a way to spend a night during a road trip in my CR-V with a reasonable amount of comfort and no mods necessary. This is a great idea. I already had a foam wedge that I had gotten on Amazon that was 24" wide. For other purposes, I had cut it in two, with one side being 14" and the other 10". I just tried using them in my 2013 CRV, and the wedges are such good props to "even" out all the uneven seats. (1) First I tried as shown in dane714 example above. I used both wedges to fill in the seat area and provide more continuous flow. (I'll try to attach images). Works pretty well especially with a thermarest mattress laid on top. (2) However, my favorite position was using the wedge on the back seat, so that the wide part of the wedge filled in the dip in the middle. Then by butting the wide part of another wedge against the wide part of the first wedge so that it extended to the back of the cargo area, it did a pretty good job of making it flat. I'll be trying more options, but this one holds promise with a little more tweaking and maybe some different wedges.

Well, this post just had some of the usefulness taken out of it. I can't post images or links until I've reach post count of 5. Too bad.
