2002 Honda CRV - Is the odometer stored in the ECU also?

    Hello,

I have been looking to purchase a CRV and have been looking at a lot, particularly 02-04. I have found this one 2002 that I really like with 65,000 miles on it and it looks like its in fair shape. It's a good price and the right color but at the same time while could pass of as a car with 65,000 miles, it could also be plausible if it had 100,000 miles on it.

I know some cars have the Odo stored in the ECU as well, is the 2002 CRV one of these cars or is it just stored in the instrument cluster? If it is, if I got a hold of an OBDII reader, do you think I could read the mileage in the ECU?

    thanks!

If i recall correctly the odometer on the older CRV's is just recorded in the cluster not the ECU. A normal OBD2 scanner would not be able to read the mileage if it was stored in the ECU. You would need access to the Honda HDS unit.
