Exclamation Tire dealer destroyed wheels at 21,000 miles.

If having to replace the tires wasn't enough, the tire dealer ruined my rims. There impact wrench wallowed around in the holes where the lugs were which left deep scratches and somehow they managed to remove small chunks from the wheels on the outside part of the wheels in that same area.
I just went for a tire rotation and balance when the owner (Friend of Ours) asked, have you seen these tires? They were wore down to the wear marks at 21,000 miles on the Flintstones, sorry, bridgestones. These have been rotated from the dealer every 5000 miles with no scratches I might add. Anyway he talked me into some Hercules tires which bounced like a tractor in a hay field. 2 of them were out of round so he ordered 4 new Sumitomo tires. They came in on Monday and he put the Sumitomo's on and destroyed my wheels.
Now I have to call back there today and tell him what his waterhead idiot's of employee's did to my wheels. Still not balanced buy the way either.

Have him replace them. Check everything before leaving, and then never go back.

Unfortunately dealing with a friend, or a family member, sometimes turns out to be a real nightmare. Good luck in getting this resolved.

A little update. Seems I may have panicked a little. There were a few scuffs but nothing like I first thought. Rims were dirty which made it look worse than it was. The tires aren't balanced yet either. The Sumitomo's are quiet but as of yet not smooth at all. I guess I can't get over the shock of replacing the tires at 21,000 miles. That just plain sux.

I got new tires a short time ago and a few of my rims got chipped as well. Now rust will start to develop. As for changing your tires at 21k I would guess they were the OEM tires. You're not alone on that one, we all had to buy new tires at about 21k. Honda puts really soft tires on so you will tell all your friends how quiet the ride is, and hopefully your friends will buy a Honda based on the nice ride. Then the soft tires wear out quickly and you buy good tires. Neat huh?

Buy only Michelin tires, preferably from either Costco or Discount Tire. You will be well pleased. The most important thing you can do with tires is to check the pressure every month without fail. They will last you 50-100% longer if you do this simple task. You don't even have to do it yourself. Swing by Costco or Discount Tire and they will happily check and adjust the pressure for free, even if you didn't buy the tires there. Any smart tire dealer will do this.....it's a good way to build your customer base.

Just so you know what a fanatic I am about tires, wheels and all things related, I have my own computer wheel balancer and over five hundred pounds of all sizes and types of wheel weights. I used to ghost write articles for Tire Review, Modern Tire Dealer and Brake and Front End magazines. That was many years ago.

    Have fun...........

Don't buy replacement tires from discount big box stores!! This has been said over and over and over again.... The tires bought in Sam's, Costco, Mavis, etc are NOT the same tire. Take the car to a reliable mechanic and get the tires from there. Sure; you will pay a bit more than those big box stores but it's well worth it.

Are you telling us that a Brand name tire with a model number molded in the side is not an authentic if it's purchased from a chain store you mentioned? Are you kidding? Do you think there are factories making copies of legitimate tires just to sell to Mavis and Costco? If you go to your mechanic and order tires, he will call Mavis and have them put aside for him and then he'll pick them up and charge you his price to install them.
