2012 Honda CRV 4WD question

I have recently bought a new Honda CRV. I have a question regarding the 4WD system. In which circumstance do you switch off the VSA? I was given conflicting information from the sales staff and am now unsure. I will generally be driving on sand dunes and wet muddy tracks. No crazy 4WDing. Any information would be appreciated.

Turn off VSA if you're stuck and need some wheel spin in order to gain momentum to free yourself. Otherwise, leave it on. That's the simplest way to put it.
