Wish I had read this forum first...

Picked up a used 03 EX this weekend. Got rid of the Pilot in exchange for some better gas mileage...so far, less than 200 miles on 3/4 tank. Not impressed...and that's with about 100 hwy miles. To be fair it's getting a new O2 sensor tomorrow, so fingers crossed. My old volvo jumped from 14 to 20 when it got new 02s...

My 2000 LX with 176,000 miles gets 24/25 in mixed driving with E10, with a roof rack.

Maybe that's how long it takes to break-in these engines... lol.

Nope ... it has always achieved that on E10, it was a couple MPG better on gasoline. My 2000 is a Generation 1, square as a box with a 2.0L engine and 4 speed tranny. Uphill, downhill, headwind, tailwind, city, highway, etc. it just doesn't vary much in respect to fuel economy. My new 2012 EX-L Navi is another story altogether. It will get 25-26 in town, 30-31 mixed and 35+ on the highway. Of course, I drive like Ms. Daisy herself and always have the "Eco Button" engaged. It hasn't been turned off since leaving the dealer with 2 miles on the odometer.

So, the useless dealer I got it from gave it to their Nissan shop to fix the O2...they said it needs a software upgrade to go with it and it would have to go to the Honda dealer. Ok, fine...dropped by my local independent Honda tech, he said never heard of such thing.

And now the light is off!

My Check Engine light has been on for the last six months, every six days it turns off for a week or two and then it returns...

A bad O2 sensor to be sure - but IS IT NECESSARY??

I just had an emissions test - no problems. Mileage is unchanged.

Do I NEED to spend the time and money to change the sensor??
Do I want to spend the time and money to change the sensor??

    Hmmmm questions...
