From the June, 2007, Honda Service News:
New Dual Pump Fluid II Is Here!
Currently Applies To: ’08 CR-Vs and ’08 Elements
Meet the new kid in town! It’s Honda Genuine Dual
Pump Fluid II (P/N 08200-9007, H/C 8632044). This
fluid is the factory fill for all ’08 CR-Vs and Elements.
You can use Dual Pump Fluid II in earlier models, but
never mix it with Honda Genuine Dual Pump Fluid
(P/N 08200-9002, H/C 6512644)—they’re not
compatible.
Dual Pump Fluid II offers these benefits:
• It meets Honda’s stringent quality standards
• It’s resistant to high-temperature breakdown
• It was developed in association with Honda
R&D
All Honda dealerships were recently sent a case of
this new brew to accommodate the mid-June release
of the ’08 Element. If you need more, you can order it
from Honda parts stock.

I am about to get a new 07 CR-V. I am a big believer in preventive maintenance. I noted that the new Dual pump fluid II more resistant to high-temperature breakdown. Living on the gulf coast, were heat is an issue in almost every thing, I have used synthetic fluids with high heat resistance in all my vehicles. It sounds like I may want to use the new Dual Pump II in the 07. With it not being compatible with the Genuine dual pump fluid would you know if you would need to flush the system when making the change over or would simply draining the old fluid be sufficient ?

I found an answer to my own question over at the EOC forum. Honda has not given the service departments information on exchanging these fluids yet. So I will just keep watching the two forums. Next time I will read both before I as a question.
Make today a day that lets you smile

Make today a day that lets you smileYes, Honda did give the service departments the info. That article is in Honda Service News, PAGE 5, which goes to techs at the dealerships. Here is that article, too:
New Fluid Pumps Help Prevent Fluid Contamination
Currently Applies To: Honda models with M/T or
4WD
This month, each Honda dealership was sent a pair
of hand-operated fluid pumps. In case you’re
wondering why. . . they’re required special tools
designed to help prevent fluid contamination. The
pump with the large cap fits a gallon jug of Honda
Genuine VTM-4 Differential Fluid; the pump with the
small cap fits a quart bottle of Honda Genuine Dual
Pump Fluid or Manual Transmission Fluid.
Each pump is made of 3/8-inch, heavy-duty rubber
tubing. The angled metal filler pipe fits nicely into the
filler hole, and the large squeeze bulb draws enough
fluid to make filling a snap. The filler pipe has a
tethered plastic cap to prevent drips when you’re
done, and an attached metal tag with the P/N on one
side and the words ONLY USE WITH on the other
side so you can write in the name of the fluid that the
pump is to be used for. There’s even a nifty metal
hanger for suspending the VTM-4 fluid jug under the
vehicle.
Here’s what one of these fluid pumps looks like in
action.
We encourage you to order more of these fluid
pumps for your shop; they’re available from Honda
parts stock. Here’s the ordering info:
Fluid Pump (gallons):
P/N 07AAK-PGJA220, H/C 8607798
Fluid Pump (quarts):
P/N 07AAK-PGJA120, H/C 8607780
********************
Since you actually do not "flush" it, you will need to do a double drain and fill. You need to engage the rear diff to make the leftover fluid get out via getting both pumps to run (hence the name Dual-Pump fluid). This is easiest on a 4 wheel lift.

Actually the Service News article you have referenced discusses a set of hoses that Honda is selling to the dealers to install various fluids from their individual containers. They want the technicians to use separate hoses for each type of fluid to prevent contamination that could occur if a technician used the same set-up for manual tranmission fluid and dual pump fluid, etc..
So far, all I have seen is that dual pump fluid and dual pump fluid II cannot be mixed together, as the chemicals used in the formulations are different and incompatable with one another.
The service news article stating that 'fluid II' can be used in older models makes no reference as to whether or not any special precautions have to be taken to prevent mixing the two types of fluid, or even if it'll ever be an issue replenishing a drained older diff with the new fluid.
There has been, to my knowlege, no indication that Honda intends for people to replenish their older model differentials with the newer style fluid.
Until there is some REAL clarification, if you have an older model 4wd, stick with the recommended fluid, and change it at realistic intervals - obviously for most the 60K - 90K severe/normal maximum suggested mileage is too long of an interval to avoid noise issues.
One of my '03 Elements has 126K on it now. I change the diff fluid every 20K miles. I have never had a noise issue from my differential. Personally, I have absolutely no intention of ever using the Type II fluid in any of my 3 family Elements. From my experience, with my personal drain intervals, there is no need.
FYI: The Honda Service News is provided electronically to the dealerships through the Honda interactive network. There are no physical copies provided to individual technicians, unless a manager makes a point to print and distribute them. Technicians will either view the articles (or not) at their own convenience, of if an information search on a particular topic links to a service news bulletin.

Thank you Honda Tech. It sound like the would be no reason to go to the new fluid if I get the 07. I just like to stay on top of what is best for what I am driving. That is the great thing about using the forum.

Honda has admitted recently that they had made an error in prior service News articles and network messages.
Apparently the Dual Pump Fluid II IS completely backwards compatible with the previous real-time 4WD differentials and that the new fluid can safely be used to fill older CR-V's and Elements.
Honda has indicated that any articles printed previously that indicated that the two fluids were not compatable with each other should be destroyed.

It made no sense to me that one hydraulic fluid wouldn't be "compatible" with another, both of which were designed for the same application.

Just available on-line, here is the text and link to the July Honda Service News article, info on Dual-pump II fluid is on page 4.
New Dual Pump Fluid Is Here!
Currently Applies To: All models with Real-Time
4WD
EDITOR’S NOTE: In a June ’07 article, we told you
that Dual Pump Fluid II isn’t compatible with Dual
Pump Fluid. We were wrong. Make sure you discard
any hard copies you made of that article and use this
article instead.
Meet the new kid in town! It’s Honda Genuine Dual
Pump Fluid II (P/N 08200-9007, H/C 8632044). This
fluid is the factory fill for all ’08 CR-Vs and Elements,
but it’s completely backwards-compatible with all ’07
and earlier models that use the original Honda
Genuine Dual Pump Fluid (P/N 08200-9002,
H/C 6512644).
Dual Pump Fluid II—like the original Dual Pump
Fluid—offers these benefits:
• It meets Honda’s stringent quality standards
• It’s resistant to high-temperature breakdown
• It was developed in association with Honda R&D
Each Honda dealership was recently sent a case of
this new brew to accommodate the mid-June release
of the ’08 Element. If you need more, you can order it
from Honda parts stock. If you’re servicing ’07 and
earlier models, keep ordering and using the original
Dual Pump Fluid until Honda parts stock runs out of it.
