Yeah, I know what you mean. It does get pretty loud depending on the type of road you are on. thats what I've noticed. certain rough or poorly paved parts of the highway can get pretty loud. but newer roads sounds pretty normal.
any tricks to block out sound coming from outside highway guys? some kind of sound absorber or something? (better rear speakers might help huh?, lol)

What would be the best tires for highway noise?

The most popular game in town is to blame Bridgestones. I have Continentals and they are every bit as noisy. Have also test driven a Dunlop equipped V. Same road. Same noise.
IMO, CR-V's have inadequate noise insulation.
Non-SUV/truck tires make a big difference.

I agree with that. My Bridgestones are only noisy on concrete or cement roads. No complaints at all on smooth asphalt.
I get a ride in a VW Tourag regularly and that thing is totally quiet. But when you open a window, there's plenty tire noise on the same concrete road.
The insulation on CR-V's is very poor.

I come from a long line of crummy vehicles and while I am not defending Honda's insulation, I will say remember what you paid for the car. A Touareg goes for about $38K. For what you pay, I think the CR-V has a lot value, but yes, they are noisy. Honda makes well insulated vehicles. Their called Acuras.
I will admit though it is uncanny how much difference road surface can make in a V.

Of course a Tourag costs more, but how about a Tucson? Cheaper than a CR-V. Much quieter on those noisy concrete roads, and guess what? Dueller tires.
Actually all VW's have good sound insulation, not just the expensive models.
But, I still love my V. Road noise and all. Sometimes I even get more noise from the passenger seat.

I have the Continentals and the same issue with road noise. You can hear everything resonating from the back of the CRV in the hatch area.
However, for those that opted for the Nav, that's what the 270 Watt sound system is for!!! Also, if you've got a moonroof, open that up and the noise from that will drown out any road noise real quick!!
Oh, and how about the paper tags on the seat belt that stores in the headliner? Anyone hear those things flapping away when you open the moonroof, or the windows?? I'm tempted to just cut them off, but worried about violating any laws. May need to tape them down to the belt or something.

Just tuck the seatbelt end in its holder (don't leave it dangling), then the paper label doesn't flap around.

So i guess there's nothing we can do about highway noise but put up the radio

I know what you mean about the paper things flapping - mine didn't do this until I used the middle belt for the first time. I did put the buckle back into the holder thing but it ends up working it way out everytime.
As for road noise - I am driving a dream car compared to my previous car - 01 Saturn SC1....aka a skateboard with a body.;)

I think the noise issue depends on your expectations and what you're used to. Our CRV replaced a '95 Mazda Protege and our other car is a Miata, so road noise is not an issue for us.

Hi all,
I am from Singapore. I own a 2006 model, one model before the latest. I do agree that the noise level is bit on the high side. I belief it has got to do with wider tires, road conditions, tire pressure. One way to reduce the noise from the undercarriage is to have it coated with a layer of noise reducing insulation material that is sprayed on.
You guys are lucky to be able to get your CRV so cheaply on other side of the globe. Over here it costs S$85k, that is, US56k. Man, it's real expensive over here to own a car but I thoroughly enjoy driving this babe.

My biggest surprise wasn't road noise, but engine noise. Quite disappointing in that reguard, but I don't have any issues with road noise. But I am sure certain on certain types of roads, it could be quite noisy, as any vehicle could. As far as sound insulation goes, overall I believe it to do quite well. However, we must consider what type of vehicle we all came FROM. Some of those vehicles could have been quite quiet.
Also, the CRV is a non-luxury CUV, not a luxury car or even mid-grade SUV.

The best cure for road noise is to have previously owned a first-generation RAV4. One of the best cars I ever owned, but the road noise was brutal! Our '06 EX is dead silent by comparison. :)

Can't address the 07s; have not even sat in one yet. My 06 is just fine but then I agree completely with what others have said about expectations and what you are used to. Here in Vermont I spend half the year on snow tires anyway so road noise is not an issue in the first place.

I have a one month new V, the road noise is not too much BUT I can hear the wind whistle by the driver's window.

if anyone has owned a jeep wrangler then you'll know what road noise is! i think the jeep was the worst vehicle with noise especially doing like 80 on a highway... wow the V is quiet compared to that!!
