Hello everyone!
I'm currently looking for CR-V in Ireland (so RHD it would be).
I'm looking for CR-V from '99 due to changes in engine (added 20 BHP).
I have a couple of questions, that I can't really google, because I'm getting different info from various sites.

1. When did the production of revised '99 model started? Is it possible to buy a CR-V registered in 1998 with '99 specs? I'm asking, because '98 can cost even a 1000 euros less than '99.
2. What are the differences between '99 and previous meodels, that I can easily spot and be sure, that I'm buying a '99 model, not anything older. Is there something that I can spot on a pictures maybe? I've heard that the bumpers re revised, but I can't see any changes. I also heard that the wheel arches are covered in '99 version, but I can see that in previous models as well. I need some clues that would make me a 100% sure, that I'm buying a '99 specs CR-V.

Thanks for your help!

I wish I could help you out some more, but I don't know the European models well enough to help. I know there were engine changes here is the states and the interior received a nicer set of colors, but other than that... ?

The surest way to determine a CR-V's model year is by the 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN), in which the model year is indicated by the 10th-position character (i.e. JHLRDxxxxWxxxxxxx).

Honda codes 1st-gen model years as follows:

T = 96
V = 97
W = 98
X = 99
Y = 00
1 = 01

Best o' luck!

Thanksa lot guys - you were very helpful.
I'll use the VIN coding for sure.

Is there anything I should know, buying a '99 model with around 100.000 miles on the clock?

Honda recommends a new timing belt at 105,000 miles. The pinion unit should be checked for fluid leaks, as 100k is typically when the seals begin to wear. A valve adjustment is a good idea if the vehicle's not recently had one (preferably every 30k), likewise new rear differential fluid if the vehicle has 4WD.

Other issues will depend on the vehicle's usage & service histories, but a V that's been well maintained should present few problems, if any. My own, at 118,000 miles, continues to run beautifully and has never missed a beat.

open the hood, if you see a metal box on top of the intake its the one with more hp. the older models don't have it
