Saved by the mat. I just got the cargo mat for our 07 yesterday. While my wife was putting shopping bags in the back a plastic bottle of grape juice split. The way the mat is made it contained the complete spill. They are worth the price.

Close one, huh?
Nice "save".

I worked in a gas station in the late 60's, and a woman frequently brought her car in for service. The car had a rotten smell inside. She always apologized for the smell and explained that a 1/2 gallon carton of whole milk leaked and soaked into the carpet and matting underneath. That car stunk (and I mean stomach turning stunk) for the 3 years that I worked there. That car was on my mind when I ordered the cargo mat for the Pearl.
What luck. Grape juice. Not the ideal spill, is it? Would have made a mess.
But having said that, our modern vehicles have nice carpets on the floor. I like the looks of that. Would never cover them up. Maybe temporarily when carrying something dirty. Like when I take my lawnmover for service. And I do use rubber floor mats in the front during winter months.
But cover all carpets all the time? Maybe also put plastic seat covers on? I don't think so.
Afraid of spilling liquids in your car? Could happen anywhere. Carrying them into your house. Even in your fridge. :D

I agree the carpet looks nice. But the only time any one sees the carpet in the back of the CR-V is when the hach is open to put something on top of the carpet back there.

My dad had a 63 Dodge Dart with cloth seats. He bought these abominable clear plastic seat covers. They were exactly fitted to the seat and were very well made, but hotter than hell on your keester (see my commentary on leather seats) and slippery. In a few years the heat discolored them to a lovely urine shade. Ah those were the days.
I have the cargo mat as well and I think it is nice. If you wish to admire your carpets or show them off to your friends and neighbors, simply remove the mat (under the cover of darkness of course), store it your basement. I have had my V for less than two months and the cargo mat has paid for itself already. If you do spill a liquid on it, it is very easy to clean. It also has a soft gripping surface and it keeps stuff from sliding around, and it is very easy to remove. To each, his own.

Due to the fact that moon roof is supposed to leak, you could tie the cargo net up to the four handles over the doors, and then slide the cargo mat on top of it to keep from getting wet. Won't have to buy that slicker after all, and I have found a use for the cargo net. I'll have to try it after I get my non-leaking moon roof fixed.

Great idea!! I will get the net first thing in the morning.
