Guys........and gals.

i`m lookin to replace my brake discs and pads.....the rear discs are heavily scored now and i`ve experienced a drop in brake performance due to the pad wear and evident disc scoring...so basically......do i go for stock replacements or is there a `better` replacement (performance wise)..the brakes on the Crv`s aint the best in the world so any improvement wil be welcomed...

has anyone changed their discs and brakes on an 02 CRV...? i`m presuming it`s petty standard stuff and relatively easy to do...unless you guys know differently ;) ??

Thanks.............

Brakes (and rotors, if needed) are easy to change on the second generation CR-V.

Can't speak for your 02 V as our 06 has bigger brakes, our braking performance is fine. BUT, there is a Honda service bulletin regarding the rear disk pads. Corrosion can make the pads bind. Perhaps that is why your rear rotors are scored and your brakes feel poor?

I remove my rear pads during the springtime tire rotation and coat the edges with Mollykote per the bulletin. No problems in 28K miles.

The '06 uses OE ceramic pads, I really like them as they are dust-free. OE brake parts are good, shop for prices. Some owners recommend Brembo rotors and Akebono ceramic pads. You can see them all at www.TireRack.com

I am in the same situation as chrissy, planning a brake job.

Carbuff- You mentioned that 06 V comes with OE ceramic. I was wondering if my 03 came with ceramic.
It is getting close to time to replace the pads, they are at 2.5mm. I would like to put on the original type. the original brakes have worked fine for me.

I bought it used at 85Mm, so the brakes have been done once, but I dont think so by the looks of the pads, etc.
I dont know how to look up the original specification. ceramic and semi-metallic are available for my V.
thanks

Don't know the composition of the '03 pads, just know what I see.

And I don't see many Gen2 front wheels that are all black with dust.

I usually favor the OE pads, you know they will fit. They usually come with the anti squeal pads too. And slider pin grease. "Everything for the Workin' Man" ;)

Get a few Internet dealer prices, then shop around locally at the Honda dealers. We have one dealer here that will discount prices when you show him the internet price printout.

FWIW the new pad thickness on the Acura is 11 MM on the front, 8.5 MM rear. Haven't bought pads for the V yet.

Thanks for your help,. I am still confused, at Rockauto.com, it lists these types, among others:

1. RAYBESTOS Part # PGD536C {Professional Grade; Ceramic; 1.870" X 3.490"} Rear; Ceramic; Originally Equipped With Ceramic
or
2. BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0881498D
Rear Brake Pads, Axxis Organic, Original Equipment Pad Material - Replace Original Equipment Semi-Metallic With Semi-Metallic Only;1 Per Car

This is what has me wondering if I own a vehicle with semi-metallic or ceramic?.?.?
I want to buy the better of the two, ceramic, but if my car originally came with SM then thats what I will buy. And wow, what a lot of choices in brake pads, there are a lot.

H&A is also running a special right now on OEM pads if you decide to go that route. On all Honda my Hondas and Acuras i have always went with OEM pads and never had any problems with fitment or noise.
