View Full Version : Noise/vibration?

I was driving this afternoon with the pooches in the back/hatch area, and the back windows down for them, front windows up for me to keep a little A/C on me. I was only about 3 miles from home, but I heard/felt a noise/vibration for about 20 seconds - though it seemed like 20 hours :-). I closed the windows and it seemed to stop. In doing some quick online searching, I found that some SUVs have this noise/vibration problem with back windows down.
I also wonder whether it could be the AWD hitting an oily spot on the highway...I don't know what AWD sounds/feels like when it performs.
Also, about 5 minutes after I got home, some military choppers flew overhead, so maybe I felt the first part of the "fleet"?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Deb

Vehicles like the CR-V all produce annoying buffeting when a window is open. Air is trapped in the back. Some mini vans have rear windows that swing out. That helps.

Every vehicle I have had with rear windows that roll down have this wind buffetting issue. Most times, if you crack your sunroof or crack open a front window, it will equal everything out & erase the buffetting.

I second this. EVERY vehicle I have probably ever driven has this resonance happen when the front windows are up and the back windows down. I rent a lot of cars too. My favorite (worst) is the late model Ford Taurus which can cause a nearly painful drumming sound at 60 mph.

I don't know....first gen 4 DR Saturns are pretty rough too...
:)
Rear windows down, front up = drum solo on the ears!

I get a tremondous thumping noise reminiscent of the old Huey choppers if I push the air dam down in the front of the moon roof between 25 and 40 with the windows up.
