View Full Version : Prices of used CRV's

Hi...

I'm starting to look for a used CRV . From what I'm seeing (at least in my area which is Southeastern Pennsylvania), used CRV's with low mileage sell for about the same as they did when they were new. I just saw on e-bay where an '06 LX sold for $19,400 (it only had like 760 miles on it). It's typical in my area for a used Honda with 40,000 miles on it to sell for $18,500.

I emailed my local Honda dealer for a quote on a new '07 and it was $21,??? (deleted the email, and can't remember the exact figure). This included the $500+ destination charge, but did not include the tax, transfer, title fee. There doesn't seem to be much difference in price for a good used CRV than for a new one.

Another major issue is the LACK of used CRV's in the marketplace where I am. Everyone holds onto their CRV's. Honestly, I'm so pleased with my '99 model that I'll probably just continue to treat it well, and just keep it hopefully to 200,000 miles.

It is amazing how high used CR-V prices are. Unless you're trying to trade one in, of course. :(

I just bought an 04 with 37K miles for $16,400 in Indy. It was brought in on a lease trade in on a Wednesday morning, and I bought it Wednesday afternoon. The turn around on CRVs here in Indy is amazing.

The main reason I wanted a Honda was because they seem to hold their resale value.

In March - 07 I paid 18K for an 06 EX 4WD MT in ASM w/ 14,000 mi. Other than that the vehicle was/is in perfect condition. One of the reasons used Hondas are so expensive is because even used Hondas are better than a brand new Chevy or Ford. Also, the Honda Certified used car checks are so complete that you may as well be getting a brand new vehicle, with a few extra miles. Even thoug it is used, I still got a 100,000 mi warranty.

Hi...

I agree completely about why used Honda's are so high priced. What all exactly is involved in the Honda Certified used car checks? I've been staying away from dealers, and looking to buy from an individual who has the maintenance records. Also, used cars from dealers tend to be higher priced, but from what I'm seeing, individuals are selling their used CRV's in the same price range as the dealers. Plus, 99% of the used Hondas for sale are through dealers.

As far as the certification of used cars they put them through some inspection where they check (what seemed to me) everything. I think it was something like a 100 point inspection (but don't quote me on that) After ~6 mo, I am very pleased with my purchase.
And just because you buy from a dealer and they don't give you the records doesn't mean anything. When I traded in my last car I had all 6 yrs of records. Everything was included, oil changes, even all the after market work I did. The dealer threw them out because they can't give them to the next owner since my name and address are on every work order.
I'd also recommend buying from a dealer, if for nothing else, the warranty and inspection. I also get free car washes for the life of my CR-V from my dealer. But that is pretty pointless, its more like a pre-wash for me.
Anyway you are already steps ahead of most people that buy new cars... you are researching before you buy. Good Idea.

Used Honda's are high priced because that is what the market will bear. High demand pushes up prices. Also remember that dealers will try to make several thousand above wholesale cost on every used car. Negotiate from wholesale up, not list price, down.

Here is current Black Book retail and wholesale for a 98 EX and remember that less than 10% of all vehicles make it into the "clean" category. The "average" category mirrors what I have seen in this area as far as actual prices of vehicles sold, not asking prices.

You are smart to sell while your mileage is still on the lower side. Once they get 100,000 miles, that's when they drop to 8,000 -9,500 (at least in my area...rural PA).

Selling price or asking price? Dealers tend to jack up the ask price by $3-4,000 over wholesale. Black Book uses actual selling prices, from dealers. KBB doesn't use anything but guesses based upon the moon cycle. I do not trust KBB at all.

Just Paid 15 K pre tax on an 04 EX with 39000 miles ingreat condition. Its funny you see some 05's selling for 18 grand in these small lots, the reason they do this is people with bad credit can get financing for these cars used with the dealers financing as opposed to hondas finance, look through those small lots its kinda funny. Truthfully you may went to spend a little more for new if its 4 or 5k I paid an extra 2 k for a great car though low mileage, clean, ran great and was fully loaded and the dealer is well known and established much better than saving a few bucks and being miserable.

I just bought a 2002 CRV-EX with 51K miles for $13K pre-tax. The car is in good condition as the previous owner had all the services done at a honda dealer.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase, and may you have the best of luck with it.

In a previous discussion, 2RedVs made an excellent point about getting fluid changes on used cars. Do you have documentation on the service that your car received? If not, you may want to consider changing the fluids to ensure that you have only fresh and correct fluids installed in your vehicle.

Again, welcome and the best of luck with you V.

Hey everyone, just picked up my new V last week. 2006 EX-L 4wd 29,000km paid 27k canadian It is awesome, and im glad i chose to buy the 06 rather than the 07, i test drove both and it seemed that the 06 styling is better and is actually roomier for myself in the front seat (6'4"). I just hope it can keep up with our canadian winters! well wait and see. Thanks to everyone on the website for all your helpful information, it made my decision alot easier!
