Interesting.

The Irish sale brochure lists the maximum unbreaked(sic) tow limit for a 2007 2 liter gas CR-V with auto trans (192 Nm/142 lb-ft torque) as 600 kg (1320 lbs), braked trailer tow limit of 1500 kg (3300 lbs (2000 kg/4400 lbs diesel..!) and a max tongue weight of 100 kg (220 lbs).

U.S. Spec for the 2007 2.4 liter gas and auto (223 Nm/161 lb-ft torque) is 1000 lbs un-braked (page 247), 1500 lbs braked (page 245 of the ownwers manual), and the Honda (U.S. spec) hitch is rated at 150 lbs max tongue/1500 lbs gross trailer weight.

Are the laws of physics different in Ireland? What is the reality of towing with a CR-V? An extra 1800 lbs (with brakes) of capacity would be nice...

I would like to know the answer to that all so. That is a big weight difference. Have you called Honda America ?

I suspect they can only give the answer that their lawyers approve of. That is: follow the manual.

America has too many lawyers and too many people who run to them at the slightest issue.

Skip the Honda hitch and get the Curt Brute Force one instead. it is a much more durable piece and has higher ratings than the Honda one.

I got the Curt last week, but even their lawyers say... "***DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED TOWING CAPACITY.***"

So the question is still: What's the reality when towing with a CR-V? Does anyone here regularly tow more than the U.S. manual says is the max?

I have, on occasion, with the 99, towed a boat or two that is over the US limits, but under the Europe limits. I did not have a trailer with brakes which is kinda scary since the combo probably weighed near 2500 pounds. The brakes are the weak spot. If you have a manual tranny, you are in a better spot since the manual tranny version have anywhere from 15%-20% lower gearing (higher numerically) and have an easier go at accelerating from a stop.

'07. No manual, but you give me hope...

alot of factors to consider - car weight, Tq, HP, brakes, gearing, etc.

Is there any different in weight? How much? How about the Tranny?

Nope, and the Honda Australia CR-V with the automatic and the SAME 2.4 liter engine of the U.S. spec model (HP and Torque) is rated thusly: "Twin axle trailer without brakes 600 kg" (1320 lbs) and "Twin axle trailer with brakes 1500 kg" (3300 lbs) with a "Towing downforce" (tongue weight) of 150 kg or 330 lbs. I see no "tow prep" options such as a transmission cooler or extra cooling fans, in fact I see no difference at all. I see an identical disparity when I look up the U.S. spec RAV4 vs. the Australian RAV4 four cylinder (no 6 in Australia), 750 kg (1650 lbs) w/o brakes/1500 kg (3300 lbs) w/brakes Australian and 1500 lbs U.S. spec (no mention of brakes, but a Tow Prep Package is available ONLY on the six which raises the limit to 3500 lbs from the six's 2000 lbs limit)

Hmm. I'm sure it's the lawyers as 2redv's stated.

Different country...different regulation...I still wanna know what hitch Honda of Australia uses for their 3300 lb trailers. It would need a 2" receiver
