2 issues have cropped up at the same time. The only thing I changed was the belt!

1) The air conditioning now goes from cold to warm while it's blowing. Turning the knob to off, waiting a sec, then back on gets the air cold again. I don't think it's a coolant issue since when it IS blowing it's definitely cold.

2) At any fan setting, the blower will occasionally go to full blast on its own. It also tends to stop blowing cold at this point.

Any ideas?? After the initial complaint of no cold air I tightened the belt I just installed, and according to my wife, the air got cold, just not 100% of the time. The belt seems tight, maybe I need to tweak it a little more?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris

Don't tighten the belt too much. You will start burning bearings. :o

If the new belt has never squealed it is probably OK. If it HAS squealed, it could be "glazed"...slick and hard from the friction. You'd be obligated to change it again.

But, let's look at other causes. First & foremost, TOP UP YOUR COOLANT. If it was low, warm up the engine then run in first gear at moderate revs (3000 - 4000) for thirty seconds. This will purge the system of air pockets...they may be fooling your engine computer into thinking the engine is running hot.

The next morning, top off the coolant again if needed.

Low coolant can also make the auto tranny shift "funky".

++++++++

The fan: Did you move or loosen the battery cables during your repair? Double check the tighness.

Other than the resistor on the blower motor (gen1 V) I'm at a loss on that one. Gen2 Vs have a more complicated fan controller.
