My 2004 is at 40,000 miles and when I went for maintenance they recommended I prepare for new tires. I guess that is pretty good for dealership tires on the miles. Anyway, I haven't purchased tires for years because I used to have company car and leases.
Any advice on going about it? I have heard to go to tirerack.com but I am not sure I will get the service and rotation/balance options if I purchase over internet and take them somewhere to put on for me.
Also, any specific types / brands better for CRVs? Is it worth paying extra money for a specific brand for example? Any advice welcomed. I just heard of this site and love it already.
Thanks, Mike in Cincy OH

Many people buy form companies like Tire Rack. Personally, I prefer to deal with local tire shops. Often the price is not much more, and if you ever have a problem, you know where to go. But by all means, shop around. Prices are flexible.

I'm thinking of buying new good year fortera for my f150, I think those tires are also perfect for our V's. my tire for the cr-v just exploded today with 1600 miles on it, it has about 3 to 4 inches diagonal burst right in the middle of the tread and luckily I immediately notice it and pull over and found white powder around the cut and the ply was cut. I am going to the dealership tomorrow. I hope I wont encounter any problem claiming it under warranty.

Even if you end up not buying from them, try tirerack.com for the easy comparison and large amount of reviews, etc. One of my favorites is the way you can enter your own vehicle, down to color, and have each tire displayed as it would look on your car.

Here in Florida, we have a store called Tire Kingdom. For a nominal fee, you can get a warranty for as long as you own the tire that you purchase from them. I do a lot of highway driving and have had two blow-outs. It was even serviced in another town while I was at work. No additional costs to me. Where ever you buy, check out any warranties they might offer. Beleive it or not, you may need it and sure beats paying for an entire new tire.

I'm thinking of buying new good year fortera for my f150, I think those tires are also perfect for our V's.
I have the Fortera's on my Pilot and they are awesome. 2 cautions though:
-- Road noise is about 20% worse than stock tires
-- Gas mileage has dropped about 1-2 mpg
I don't know if it makes sense to put such an aggressive tread on the CR-V.
When I buy a new car I go down to the discount tire place and buy the tire rotation package (not the replacement package but these being more expensive ones (hi speed 17") I might this time) and get them rotated as presrcibed. When they need to be replaced (and I know it) I tell them I just need 5000 miles more or so unless they work out a deal. And they do. NEVER go in there letting them know you need tires; let them sell them to you. You'll get a better deal. Never buy from the dealer; they are only good for warranty work.
40,000 miles is too early to replace them. I usually get 50000 - 75000 miles on my tires; keep driving them until the wear indicator shows. If they come up earlier than 50,000; its either your driving habits or the tires. Change one or the other OR both.

Tirerack is great to get information and reviews and to compare prices; I bought some stuff from them; the only problem is that you have to add shipping to the price and installation as well and then the price is just the same as your local tire shop or more.
I also buy tires at Costco or Sams, the price maybe be a few dollars more than Tirerack but you pay like $13 for installing each tire and that covers free balance and rotation avery 7500 miles and free patching and/or replacement and that's where you save tons of money.
If you pay for tire balance and rotation is like $50-75 by at least 5 times that's $250-375 or more.
The only problem with Cotsco and Sams is that they have very limited selection.

Hi all, I just moved from Vancouver Island to Fort Mcmurray. I would like to put on taller wheels and tires for more ground (snow) clearance. What about the TPM system? What will happen to speedo calibration and the four wheel drive system? Any advice help will be appreciated.

Thanks
