DaimlerChrysler AG, the current maker and owner of all things Jeep, calls the Compass a "compact SUV." Marketing mavens call it a "crossover vehicle" -- their way of saying that what appears to be a sport-utility vehicle really is a station wagon or a family sedan with elevated ground clearance and other SUV pretensions.
