View Full Version : Loose Driver's Seat

I have a 2002 EX and the driver's seat has come loose. When slowing for a stop sign or stop light, the seat tips forward a little. Then when accelerating away from the sign or light, the seats falls back into place. It has been getting steadily worse. Needless to say, it is very annoying and the wife wants it fixed - now.
I tried to determine where the loose bolts are but can't even seen how the thing is put together because of all of the plastic trim pieces surrounding the seat and the brackets.
It does appear that the mounts on the floor are okay. It seems to be the part of the bracket that mounts to the part that bolts to the floor that is loose. Clear as mud? :D
Anyway, has anyone else had this problem and/or how do I get to the brackets to tighten them. Do the trim pieces just pop off with some gentle pulling?

Thanks.

Here is a TSB for the problem you describe.

Warrany most likely won't cover it...but it shows the repair procedure.

Thanks. It is fairly common. Our 04 developed the issue and the dealer fixed it per the TSB, free.

Thanks for the replies. I should have done some searching on this issue sooner. I have an oil change coming up soon so I will ask the dealer to fix the seat and ask them for goodwill consideration.

I contacted the corporate Honda customer service people and explained to them the issue. They then 'took it under advisement'; and then contacted the dealer I was working with to propose something. The dealer had discovered that a weld had broken on the seat bracket and so the bracket would have to be replaced. I had bought an 75000 mile extended warrenty with the truck but this had run out since I had 98000 miles on it. I was told the cost to replace and install the bracket is $600!! For that price it must be made of gold or platinum!

Corporate Honda said that they would pay for half. I suppose that is generous of Honda since the warranty was expired and the vehicle has a lot of miles for the year. It is still $300 though! Feeling I really had no choice, I accepted the offer and had the work done. The seat works great now (as it should for that much money.) I still love the truck!

Thanks for the links and advice everyone!
